Yay, we had sunshine.
I can’t believe it, but my freckles and my red nose are telling me it’s true.
We’ve been so lucky as we planned to do a very brave (or stupid) thing,.
Infact, up to last night I think many people would feel we were planning something most ill advised.
You’re wondering now aren’t you…
What was this iffy, risky, not a good idea thing the Beaufoixs were planning for today?
Attempting a bank robbery wearing Telly Tubby Masks and armed with a large handbag and a folding pushchair?
Fashioning a boat out of coloured maize, gerbil droppings and playdough then sailing round the world without a map or a supply of fresh houmous?
Performing a back flip on top of a very narrow wall?
No, none of the above, no, the silly, mad, risky, ridiculous thing we had planned for today was….
A day at Sundown Adventure Land.
After what feels like 6 months of torrential rain, we gave in and decided to just go for it.
Miss E and two of her friends J and A all have summer holiday birthdays, so we decided to take them, and a couple of their closest friends for a day out instead of having a party.
It was amazing.
Miss M only had two tantrums, one over broken chocolate, the other over not wanting to wear her reins, even though both times I took them off she tried to go exploring by herself.
We took a huge picnic, the bins all had lids so there weren’t too many wasps (I still don’t get the point of them) and there were no slugs in sight, hooray.
It’s a really fantastic place and we were all tired but happy by 5pm when the park closed, although we still hadn’t done everything.
Miss M did not like the tunnel we went through on the Rocky Mountain Ride, or the singing crocodile,
Miss M: “Dat crocodile scaring M Mummy. My want to go home.”
Me: “But we’ve only just got here M. It’s ok, it’s not real.”
Miss M: “My want the crocodile to go home.”
Me: (Mock Shouting), “Go home crocodile. Go home,” as I tug M in the other direction and quickly find an interesting fibreglass horse to show her…
…infact she wasn’t too fond of anything that made a noise, apart from the mini piano in the Three Little Pigs house which I think she truly believed she was playing.
E had a fantastic time with her mates and only got stroppy a couple of times including not wanting her photo taken at the end. (She’s so like me.)
Triumphs of the day…
Miss E went on a Zip Wire for the first time, all by herself, without falling off. What a star.
Miss M walked barefoot in sand. Hooray, Great Yarmouth, we’re ready for you.
Surreal Moment of the day…
Miss M, in the car, on the way, it came from nowhere…
M: “My rabbit has cooled down now.”
Me: “Pardon babe, what did you say?”
M: “My rabbit has cooled down now mummy”
Me: Glancing, eyebrows raised, at my mum, who is glancing back, eyebrows raised, at me.
“Oh right, erm, OK, that’s good.”
1. We have no pet rabbit.
2. M has no cuddly rabbits, no rabbit outfits, no rabbit Little People, no hot cross bunnies,
3. No rabbit.
Unless a ghost rabbit has been chased into the house by the ghost dog.
Ah well, if that was all the summer we’re going to get, we did good.

So glad you had an enjoyable day out.
The weather has gone crazy all over the world I think.
My UK relatives are coming for a holiday in a few weeks and are begging me to make sure it is sunny, dry and warm when all I really want is rain and lots of it!

Sounds like fun. What’s a Zip Wire?
July 25th, 2007 at 1:59 am
Maybe you should do a holiday swap mad Goat Lady. While they’re at yours in the sun, you could come here to enjoy the rain and the slugs.
Belle, a zip wire is a ride where you jump on a stick that hangs from a wire and slide down the wire James Bond style.
That probably makes no sense, so follow this link and you’ll know.
http://www.foroutdoors.co.uk/acatalog/Play_Projects.html
I’ve also heard themdescribed as ‘Death Rides’ but didn’t go with that terminology…

Oh, I loved the zip wire at camp! I only went to camp once, and the zip wire was something I was good at. I can’t tell you, Jo, how much I was longing for the return of “ghost dog”. However, if you’ve got one ghost rabbit, you might want to make sure she wasn’t a pregnant female. You’ll be over run.
We’ve been thinking of taking TFYO to Disney World, since it’s only about a four hour drive away now. I’ve never been there, and I’nm a little afraid.

Ok, now I know what a Zip Wire is. There’s one at a nearby playground here but I just called it “That Thing” as in “I don’t know if you are big enough to ride on that thing…” and “Okay if you insist, but be careful, that thing looks dangerous…”

Hi Jo. Here I am, a few short weeks to departure from this island, having finally learnt that ‘Make hay while the sun shines’ is meant literally. The sun shines and we too are out the door too. Sound like a great use of a sunny day.

That does sound like the perfect weather for those activities. Glad it held up.
I bet she didn’t mean “rabbit” at all. I only say this because my little sister used to call things by other names all the time at that age. For instance, she called her blanket her “nose.” And she called her drinking cup her “pumpkin.” Whatever… so, perhaps she was thinking that her HEAD had cooled down now, or her FEET, or whatever… you get my drift.

“My rabbit has cooled down now mummy”
Great sentence!
I’m glad you had a good day out. I’ve been reading with horror the tales of water woe coming out of my country. Flooding in Oxford?! Good grief.
Hope your area hasn’t been too affected.

Jen, I know, ghost dog was cool, but I think he must have gone into the light as we’ve not heard from him since.
Ghost rabbits might be fun though, apart from the fact that Miss M loves to eat raisins…
I bet TFYP would love Disney World. I went when I was 18 and thought it was amazing, but I’d have loved to go as a little girl.
We’re hoping to go to Disneyland Paris when Miss M is a little older, mayb in a couple of years time.
CamiKaos at Mommified Me is in Disneyland now with her little girl so you’ll have to check out her site and see how it’s been.
Bellevelma, ‘the thing’ is such a good name for so many things. The film ‘The Thing’ is not so good, but very scary when you are 10.
The Good Woman, it’s so true, ‘Make Hay while the Sun Shines’. Hope your hay making was lots of fun.
Susan, it was indeed perfect. And I love that your sister called her blanket her ‘nose’ hee hee.
Dumdad, it was a good sentence for a two-and-a-half today year old wasn’t it. The rain came back today, but it’s ok where I live. Wet, but not scary.

Oh hooray for amusement!!!

Sorry for my tardiness. I tried to open your page yesterday but my computer went all weird on me.
What a fun day and all the better for the lack of meltdowns. I can finally rest now that I know what a zip wire is.
As for the ghost rabbit – I wonder if it might eat slugs.Just a thought.
I continue to hope that your area stays dry.

Hooray to you too CamiKaos, you Disneyland woman you.
RC, I’m sorry my page didn’t open. We have had words and she is very sorry and promises to send you a kit kat.
I am praying ghost rabbit eats slugs…otherwise I might have to get a ghost hedghog.
