If you don’t do soppy this might not be for you, but I promise not to make you feel too ill…
And I have these ready in case you need them.

Ok.
Right.
Tomorrow it is our Wedding Anniversary, mine and Mr B’s.
We will have been married for 8 years.
We’ve actually been together for 14 but decided that as we wanted children it would be good to share a name.
We already shared a house, a car, a bank account, a dog, a cat and lots of memories, hopes and plans, so, we had a small wedding at our local church and an amazing reception in my parents back garden.
These are ‘photos’ of our photos.
I really must invest in a scanner that works.
It was a fantastic day.
We got together when I was 18 and Mr B was the age I am now, which is a funny thought, but the age difference has never been a big thing to us. He always seems younger and he looks younger so people are often surprised when they find out what an ‘old git’ he is.
I’d like to say I have always seemed mature for my age but I think some people might disagree so I won’t.
I used to feel sad about the life he’d had before me, because I missed his days of crazy youth, I missed so many of his ‘firsts.’
But as Mr B pointed out, when he was having his first taste of alcohol I was still in my pram and it would have been wrong, very, very wrong.
Having been in bands all his life Mr B has so many tales to tell…
![]()
b-movie Slaughterhouse 5 Enormous
Like the time he hit Lou Reed on the head with a Beach ball in a New York nightclub…
Like the time they supported Duran Duran and one of his band ‘mistakenly’ went home with one of their jackets…
He has travelled the world,
met so many people,
lived.
Yet he is happy here with me.
When we were first together many of his friends said he’d gone all ‘up hill’ since he’d met me.
And he has given me confidence freedom to grow and develop and be myself.
And we are lucky enough to have two beautiful kids who can do stuff like this…
I’m not saying our life is perfect,
but as we sat eating our barbeque lunch today,
With Mr B chomping into a burger, Miss E chewing on a sausage and Miss E crunching carrot sticks, I just felt so lucky.
Happy Anniversary us.
Here’s to the next 8 years, the madness and the memories.

Happy Anniversary—when I had my first taste of alcohol, my husband still had training wheels on his bike (ok, the age gap isn’t quite that! bad).
August 27th, 2007 at 12:57 pm
Thanks Art. You’re a sweetie.
Anja welcome. I have tissues if you need them
Leendaluu, I think age gaps work fine if you’re similar enough in outlook. Mr B is a young soul in lots of ways and maybe I’m an old one so we do ok.

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary, Jo. *sniff* I thought it was a lovely story, and those pictures just prove what I’ve already said, and that you are absolutely lovely. I’ve only been married for five years, but there really is something special about looking around at the ordinary that surrounds you, and realizing how awesome it is. Cheers to you and Mr. B, Jo!

Oh Jo, I must embarrass Mr B ‘man of rock and roll’ by reminding him of some of his ‘firsts’ that I witnessed:
The first time he realised that if he lay down on a large trampoline to rest then young children would jump on his head.
The first time he discovered that if he threw his children affectionately up into the air in a human game of catch then my daughter would insist she be included, and he would have to spend his afternoon entertaining them all.
The first time he tired to get out of a game by saying he was listening out for the doorbell!
And most importantly (but perhaps he doesn’t know this one) – the first time I heard him singing along to one of his own records while dancing round the kitchen!
Plus, the first time my 4 year old said that she did not want to go to bed because she wanted to see Mr B. (I did tell you about this one.)
Congratulations to you both. Kiss*sob*hug*tissue.
Aren’t you so pleased I’m back?!!

PS Why have you filed your entry on Mr B under pets?
August 27th, 2007 at 2:46 pm
Reading your post I felt so happy for you all! Many congratulations, Jo, to you and your husband. Looking at your photo I couldn’t see an age difference between you, and you look so happy. I like the way you did your hair too! It’s funny, that thing about lives before we met our partners. I feel like Mark, my husband, was there with me all that time even though I hadn’t met him, because he understands almost everything about me.
Enjoy your happiness, Jo, you deserve every minute of it.

What a gorgeous post Jo.
Happy anniversary to you both and may you have many, many more happy years together
August 27th, 2007 at 2:55 pm
Sorry Jo…forgot to say, don’t let age worry you or what other people think about it either…has taken me and the Toyboy (Hubby) quite a while to work this one out but now I hardly think about it.
We are the other way round to you two age wise…I am 9 years older..hence the Toyboy
August 27th, 2007 at 3:34 pm
Jen thanks sweetie.
You’re so right about enjoying and valuing the ordinary stuff in your life.
Hope you’re feeling much better.
Big hugs.
Ingenious Rose your post made me and Mr B howl.
He says he volunteered to listen for the doorbell as the cricket was on.
Bad bad man.
And we are glad you’re back and I posted this under pets as I mentioned my dog and cat who were yesterday joined in animal heaven by Laura the gerbil.
Flora seems to be coping ok without her though.
(Flora is the other gerbil in case you’re wondering.)
Mother at Large and Mad Goat Lady thank you.
Mr B is very pleased that he doesn’t look too old, and Mad Goat Lady I hope you and your toyboy man continue to be very happy.

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary! You were a beautiful bride! (Still are, I’m sure.) I love weddings.
I love our anniversary–we actually celebrate two, the day we were married, and the day we met. You and I are similar in that my husband is almost twelve years older than I am. It doesn’t feel that way, though. I think we just met at the right time and are right for each other so it works. The main difference between us is that we both used to have red hair, and now only I do–his has gone white, and I am heading there! We will be married twenty years in May!
I wish you many more happy years together.
August 27th, 2007 at 10:43 pm
congrats.
and ooh and ahh. lovely
August 27th, 2007 at 11:39 pm
Belle, Cami, thanks.
Mrs Weasley
20 years, wow.
I agree with what you say about meeting at the right time.
I think we did too.
August 28th, 2007 at 2:02 am
Whoa, Mr B is a rock star? That’s very cool dear!
I totally understand everything you say about the age difference, that huge chunk of life that they experienced when they were your age, and now you can’t experience it because you’re with them, and while you’re happy to be with them, you can’t help wishing that you’d had a few more years to create your own story and have “firsts”. There are 10 years between me and Jez (who I’ve been with since May 2006) and sometimes I feel that too. But mostly I think it’s extremely sexy!
I hope you had a lovely day! xxx

I adore a love story, thanks for sharing and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.
August 28th, 2007 at 7:25 am
Oh jo. What a great story and wonderful pictures. You don’t even need a good scanner.
Have a fabulous day and look forward to the next chapter.
August 28th, 2007 at 9:44 am
Thank you for sharing that. Happy Anniversary! I can feel your joy!
August 28th, 2007 at 11:43 am
Miss Despina you’ve got it.
And I wish I’d been there for more of his firsts.
I’d have loved to have seen him at 18, but he says he was far too cocky then and I’d probably have hated him.
It’s just good we’re together now.
And Jez sounds amazing.
RC thanks sweetie. The pics look kind of soft focus I suppose, but a scanner would be useful. And photoshop. I must save up for that too.
Ahh thanks Corey. That’s lovely.

Ha, it’s too weird to picture it in my head sometimes. He always prefered older girlfriends before me, so a girl 5 or 6 years older than him is old enough to be my mum!
You have a great smile Jo, and are you a natural redhead? Lucky!
August 29th, 2007 at 1:49 am
Happy Anniversary and what gorgeous photos. Here’s to the rest
August 29th, 2007 at 2:05 am
Thanks Despina. I’m not a natural redhead, more kind of brown with a bit of copper, but there is red hair in my dad’s side of the family so I have that kind of colouring – pale skin, freckles and sunburn, Oh joy.
21st Century Mum thanks for the toast.
I’ll have to drink some wine now.
Big sighhhhhhhhhh.
August 29th, 2007 at 3:11 am
Wine? Did someone say wine? Where are the glasses….
August 29th, 2007 at 10:14 am
Who needs glasses. Aslong as there’s a corkscrew I’m happy.
August 29th, 2007 at 3:45 pm
Always last to the party (sorry, still busy being ill!) but…Happy Anniversary!! Hope you had a good ‘un. I’ll toast ya with my Covonia before I go to bed!
