This week has been a great one for prezzies.
Firstly my gorgeous friend Ingenious Rose came for a coffee today and brought me some courgettes, grown by her own fair hands.
She told me about them on the phone.
So I was thinking stir-fry for tea,

Mmmm,
or ratatouille…

When they arrive they are, erm, fabulous.
Perfectly formed capsules of soft flesh coated in verdant green…
They are also kind of,
Well,
Compact…
Hee hee, how cute are they?
They’re not much bigger than my fingers, and I promise I am not a freakishly large handed lady.
So now I’m thinking houmous and dips.

Yum.
My second fabulous gift was from the the lovely Pari who gave me….
Wait for it…
A stunning make over for my Ostrich.

Before

After
It made me laugh so much.
I’m thinking either Rod Stewart or Rachael Hunter were her muse.
My ostrich is very happy though, and has taken to strutting about the place in kitten heels and fishnets. She has even asked me to do her nails so that she can look a little more glam.
She’ll be wanting lipstick next,

No male ostrich will be safe.
I met Pari through Cre8buzz, a fab new online community that I have joined to promote my blog and meet new people, and I am having a ball.
It’s a great time to join as it is still fairly small, so it’s a real community.
Within the Cre8buzz community there are smaller communities e.g. Women, Writers, Mums, Photographers, so you can choose the place you feel you will fit best.
I blagged an invite from the fab Brillig who is currently number one in the women’s community, but look, I’m number 15, the community really is that small.
I chose Women over Mom’s as I felt I blog about more than parenting alone, so we’re a fairy select little group.
Come and boost our numbers and get inspired. It’s really good fun. Just click here and join.
My final gift was the gift of laughter, from both Miss M and my niece baby J.
1. We’re in the garden with some of my friends and their kids when Miss M walks up to me.
She has a very serious expression on her face, and she is holding her hand tightly to the side if her face, covering her ear.
Alarm bells ring.
BEE STING…BUMPED HEAD…EAR INFECTION…??
Me: M does your ear hurt sweetie?
Miss M: “I’m on da phone.”
She gives me a withering look, then sweeps past me and carries on her conversation.
2. It’s 6 O’Clock and I get a flustered phone call from my sister-in-law H.
H: “Jo has baby J pooed today?”
(I’d been looking after J for the day.)
Me: “Erm, no. Is everything ok?”
H: “It’s fine. It’s just, J has swallowed a bath pearl, and she’s pooed, and I need to check if she was due for one, or if it’s a result of her ‘early tea’.”
Me: “Oh my God. Did she spit it out?”
H: “No, she just swallowed it down. I managed to get some of the skin, but the rest disappeared. She seemed to quite like it.”
H had phoned NHS Direct and there was nothing poisonous in the pearl, but if J was sick, foamed at the mouth or had diahorrea H was to take her to casualty. (The Emergency room.)
Me: “So she’s fine then?”
H: “Yeah.”
ME: “OK, in that case, that is hilarious. She’ll probably have the sweetest smelling nappies in the whole of the UK for the next few weeks.”
And I put the phone down giggling to myself as I have this image of baby J in my head, crawling along, farting bubbles…

G’day Jo,
Just saw your comment on my `Telling Write From Wrong’ post and I’m delighted to hear about your plan.
So do it.
Yes, go ahead. Do it.
I know you can. I have no doubt about your writing ability. I am a career editor – and I can recognise talent when I see it.
What’s stopping you? Nuthin. Geddonwithit.
I’m always here to help, but you know that …
Keep smiling
David

Jo – I’ve just loved this right from from IR’s little courgettes through to the image of the baby. The Ostrich makeover is fab – most definitely Rachel Hunter ;-D

i don’t log in there nearly enough… I need to make time for it in my routine

Oh, those two-year-old phone converstaions are so sweet. Does she use real words, or just babble? My daughter used to just babble, but it was so darling! I love how they just talk aloud while they play when they are young.

And all sung to the song “We’re forever farting bubbles.”
I like Rod Ostrich.

David thanks. I need to just go for it I think.
Hee hee thanks 21st CM. Ingenious’s courgettes made me howl. They are so tiny. I’m going to munch them at lunch. I have some houmous now. Yum.
Cami it’s fun but I know what you mean. It’s hard to find time and have a life isn’t it?
I’m visiting probably every other day.
There are so many nice people there which helps.
Corey, glad it made you smile. Hope you’re ok.
Mrs Weasley Miss M has kind of proper conversations.
She’ll say, “Hello. Yes. Am playin in a garden. Love you, bye bye.”
She’s quite a good little talker. There is occasional babble, but generally she’s pretty coherent.
I love listening to her chatter away to herself when she plays.
She’s in the room now shouting at her cousin and telling her to go to the naughty corner.
Her cousin is actually at Nursery.
I might have to go peep at her. Hee hee.
Dumdad, I used to love that song. LOL.

Are you sure those zucchini were ready to come off the vine? They are cute though!

I’ve just munched one.

When my oldest was a baby he took a big bite out of a bar of Ivory soap in the bath. He was probably around a year and a half old. I called Poison Control (just one of many calls, believe me) and they found it very amusing as I described the foaming bubbles coming out of his mouth. Don’t remember how it affected the other end.
Tell more about this blogging community, jo. How long have you been in, how does it work, etc. If you have time…if not I’ll pop over and check it out!
have a great day sweetie.
September 13th, 2007 at 6:37 am
LOL, about the bath pearl. A the son of a friend of mine actually sucked down half a tube of KY Jelly once when he was two. Apparently Poison Control here in the U.S. thought it was the funniest thing they’d ever heard. It took them three minutes to tell her it was non-toxic because they were laughing so hard. They did say his poop might be a little slippery the next couple of days, though.
I”ll pop over and check that site, thanks for the heads up!

RC, Jen, I’ve been in about a couple of weeks I think.
It’s really just a case of making friends by visiting other people’s profiles and commenting.
You can also rate people’s profiles, sites, pictures etc.
and that’s how you get ranked.
It’s still in Beta so it’s not completely public yet I don’t think, so when it goes public they’re saying it will be huge.
I don’t know much about these things but I’ve already met some really nice new people and seen some great blogs.
It’s making me take more of an interest in taking pictures, and there are loads of published writers there I’m hoping to pick up tips from.
I’d love to see you two there. It’s fun.

My Mum used to say if I swallowed chewing gum I’d trump bubbles!
September 13th, 2007 at 11:17 am
Okay, it’s your clueless friend again. I’ve joined up and am at the bottom of the lowly pile.
Now what? How do I meet people?
Am I pathetic, jo, or what?
September 13th, 2007 at 11:54 am
I loved this post! Made me smile!
September 13th, 2007 at 2:23 pm
Thanks Lori.
Smiles are good.
RC, ok, all you do is have a look around.
I went to people I knew like Brillig and checked out people on her friends list.
Leave a comment if you like what you see, and click on their ‘become friends bit’.
If anyone leaves you a comment, it seems to be an invite to reply at their profile, not on your own.
Then you can look at peoples galleries and comment on photos etc and rate them if you like.
All this effects your buzz rank.
I’ve found people to be really friendly and have had alot of fun.
I’m not using th blog on there at the moment, but I copied a widget that means there’s a visual feed to my blog so people can see what I’m doing and hopefully start reading.
You can also register your blog address so that people can rate your blog.
I’m picking up loads of tips on writing etc and it’s all done in a fun way. There seem to be fewer hieracrchies and egos etc.
Get your stuff up there you, and Jen, you’ll blow them away with your fabulousness.
September 13th, 2007 at 2:24 pm
Akelamalu that is soooo funny.
Trump is a good word.
Did you ever dare swallow any chewing gum?
September 16th, 2007 at 12:46 pm
Pari said you were nuts – and she was right
September 16th, 2007 at 12:51 pm

September 17th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
