The Lion that Came for Tea

Blog

I’ve sat down at my PC three times already today to try to come up with a proper post for you and get a little ahead so I can also do a big push on my novel tonight. (hee hee that sounds really impressive , but it’s so not.)

So anyway, what did I come up with?

Nothing, nada, ne rien.

Then, as I walk up the stairs to take up a load of ironing, Miss M stops me…

Miss M: “Don’t fall over my lion Mummy.”

Sensing the possibility of blog fodder, as well as imminent cuteness, I put the washing down and sit beside her on the step.

Me: “Have you got a lion M?

Miss M: “Yes. It dare.”

She points.

I look, and there before me stands the most beautiful golden haired beast I have ever seen.

He fills our small hallway and I can feel his damp breath on my face as he yawns and licks his bewhiskered chops.

A rumble rises up from his mighty chest and I look down with concern at my small child.

Me: “Hmmm, M, we may need to move…”

Miss M: “Dat lion is hungry Mummy.”

She reaches out and pokes her tiny finger into his furry underbelly. He doesn’t seem to mind.
Me: “Oooo. What shall we give him?”

Miss M: “Some Hoola Hoops, and a jaffa cake and a grape.”

Me: “Of course. Perfect.”

And indeed it was, for the glorious creature snaffled up his grub and lumbered away to play with his yellow ball.

And I am 5298 words into my new Bert (NaNoWrimo) piece and feeling much happier. Phew!

Wait… you’re writing a novel and a blog, raising a child and a lion, AND you iron? I’m not even sure where my iron is located.

I don’t want to discourage your novel, but I do think you and Miss M could write some excellent children’s books. You’ve already written one here!!

Of course. Jaffa cakes. What else would you feed a lion. I would hate for one to come here and be out of the appropriate food.

Good luck with the writing Jo

Lee, Mr B does most of the ironing, I just put it all a way. I am a lucky, lucky girl.

Akela, the lion is stunning isn’t it. I found them on the fab photo xchange site. Miss M is mine though. :)

Dumdad, I think so. I would love to see inside her head.
Not for the brains and goo, but to see what her imagination is like, and Miss E too. I love that they think creatively. I think we so easily forget this as a grown up.

Cami, I hate ironing. I love how kids clothes often don’t need it when they’re tiny small. Miss E is getting to that ironing age. Bleh.

Ahh Mrs Weasley that would be such fun. We’l have to have a go. :D

Hi Tina, thanks. I think Jaffa Cakes are appropriate food for most species. I bet even goldfish would eat them.
Must go and write some more now. :)

Great story – and pics! The only things living on my stairs are dead toys and piles of escaped (un-ironed) clothes waiting to get back upstairs! Would much rather have a lion. Do you have a link to the photo site? :)

Aha! So your co-writer is called Miss ‘Magination. :)

Really Jo, you should know that lions prowl about after dark. Miss M is also on the ball about feeding – what goes in must come out…

    Well done you!!

Deb, I think you were in moderation. Sorry I missed you. The lion is full grown now so he mostly looks after himself. The kids and the book are the most challenging at the moment. :)

Avery, I knew having a pet lion would come in handy one day. And thanks.;)

Hi David. Thank you. You’re a sweetie.

Corey, I hate ironing. It is evil, and bad for your back.

Englishmum, the photo site is http://www.sxc.hu/home
    I love it.

WFW, it’s always good to know what to feed a visiting lion. ;)
