I know, I know, I’m a day early, but tomorrow I have to be the hostess with the mostess and all that.
So….
Here is the gorgeous Karisma from Karisma and Kids fab fun Monday challenge…
“I want you to take a trip down memory lane, and keep right on going, right back to your childhood. And I want to hear “THAT STORY”. You remember the one? Yes, you do! The one your parents, siblings, extended family or friends, would never let you forget, live down or get over!”
It could have been funny, embarrassing, shocking, delightful, naughty, mischievous, or just so darned cute that everyone felt the need to remind you of it, and keep reminding you of it, all your life.
I would like to hear all the juicy details and if possible (but not compulsory) , add a picture of yourself at the age your story took place. So there you go. Not too difficult, I think. The only rule is, that the story MUST be about yourself. Not your children, siblings or your significant other.
****************************************
Wow, this was hard for me as I’m one of four so all our stories kind of get intermeshed.
But, my mum has told me about a time when I was two years old…
Mum used to have one of those huge coach built prams, apparently the same kind the Queen had, Ooo la-di-da.
One snowy morning, my mum was walking my sister to and from Nursery as she always did.
I would have been two years old, Claire four, and my little brother David just a couple of months, so it was about 1977.It wasn’t a long walk, but it was cold and the snow was very deep and hard on my little legs.
I have this image of myself wrapped up like a tiny Paddington Bear.

But I’d have probably been wearing one of those pink loopy bonnets. (This is the nearest I can find to them but mine wasn’t half as cool as these by Woolly wormhead…)

So, my mum lifted me into the huge pram and tucked me in next to my tiny brother.
Even now, I have this memory of looking out of the pram and feeling very high, very warm, and very safe. I don’t know if the memory is real, or if it has become real through many tellings, but I treasure it because the feelings attached to it are of being warm and loved and cherished.
Big sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
This is me at two years old boogieing the night away with my big sis.
Hee hee, don’t you just love our matching dresses, funky sandals and Purdy hair cuts?

It’s funny though.
As I’m writing this little tale of my trek in the snow, Miss E calls me to look out of the window, and this is what I see…
The first snow of the year.
Hooray.
So tomorrow, I’ll be wrapping my two little monkeys, Miss E (7) and Miss M (2) all warm and snug as we do the school run.
I hope they feel just as cherished and loved as I did.

Mrs Weasley I will. I love snow. It makes the cold weather seem worth it. Does that make any sense??
November 18th, 2007 at 11:10 pm
Perfect sense!

Great Pictures! Great improvisations on the pram and bonnets. Just reading reminded me of some old pictures of my mum as a toddler taken in England. You bear a striking family resemblance as well. How bizarre! There is a picture of me somewhere that looks exactly like you at about the same age.

I love the stroller. I wanted to get one when my son was born, but Egads! It was like 1000 Euros. So, like $1500 for me. I didn’t even approach my hub!
Your story is very sweet. And, lucky you actually getting to ride in the nice comfy stroller. I love how you used Paddington!

That’s a very cozy story. I still remember my mom wrapping me in blankets in front of the stove on winter mornings.
You’re ahead of us with the snow. It’s in our Wed. forecast.

I Love the story Jo.
I sat here thinking of what I would have wrote about….and I couldn’t think of a darn thing. I think my mom needs to do some writing down of stories before they are lost forever. Thank you for the reminder of why I blog…..so Sugar will have something to help her remember.
Congrats on the snow. I have no idea if we’ll get any this year or not. Most years we don’t….but I have hope.

This was a sweet post, too bad you can’t really remember it. I would LOVE for someone to push me around in a pram now (lol).
I think you look pretty groovy boogie-ing with your 70s dress and hair. Those were the days, huh?
November 19th, 2007 at 1:33 pm
I was waiting to hear that you had pushed the baby out of the pram.
November 19th, 2007 at 1:35 pm
For a moment, I envisioned you trussed up like Randy, Ralphie’s little brother from that movie “A Christmas Story!” I am SO jealous of your snow…it will be a long time before we get some here…sigh.
November 19th, 2007 at 2:31 pm
They will. Have no doubt about that, Jo
November 19th, 2007 at 2:43 pm
What a lovely story. I hope my kids remember those times instead of the other sort.
November 19th, 2007 at 6:16 pm
that is a wonderful “warm” story. Most of the other stories are when we misbehaved.
HEY.. you must have a great camera. Snowing here – and it just looks like blur on my camera
