Miss M made the biggest mess in the living room yesterday.
In the space of about 10 minutes she managed to drag out every toy that was in there and spread them about the room dramatically. It looked, according to Mr B, as if we’d been burgled.
Being the cool daddy that he is, he decided not to shout, but instead to hold an open and honest discussion about the horrors of untidiness, and the fact it can lead to such maladies as Stubbed Toe Syndrome, Tripping Over And Falling Into The Fireguard Resulting In A Bumped Head Disease, or Treading On Little Sharp Things That Make You Hop Around On One Foot And Cry Like A Baby Disorder.
NB. These are all listed in medical journals across the globe and should not be taken lightly. They are up alongside Man Flu in their seriousness. And you know how serious Man Flu is right?
So he began the discussion…
Mr B: “Who made all this mess M?”
Miss M: …….
She carries on watching Dora the Explorer and trying to stuff a large doll into a small car.
Mr B: “M, who made the mess?”
Miss M: “My don’t know.”
Mr B: “M, did you make the mess?”
She pauses and looks at him. Then responds firmly as she turns back to the TV and the doll torture…
Miss M: “It wasn’t me. It was my hands.”
I tell you, those little hands have a lot to answer for…

Brilliant riposte.
(NB. These are all listed in medical journals across the globe and should not be taken likely. – lightly, you meant? Sorry it’s difficult taking off my sub-editor’s cap!)
Merry Christmas!

Clever! My 2.5-year-old tries to tell me that it is his 11-month-old sister who demolishest he playroom on a daily basis – and while she certainly creates messes of her own, I don’t think she is skilled enough to line the window seat with Matchbox cars, and fill said cars with Cheerios.
Laurie is right – scary smart! Were it not for the need to have their diapers changed, toddlers would rule the world . . . the diaper thing, I’m convinced, is some sort of conspiracy to put us in our place.
Found you through Holly and plan to stick around – all blame for such should be directed to her.

she is so very clever. I love those hands!

I think I’ll try that this Christmas after I’ve punched the MIL’s lights out.
‘It wasn’t me…it was my fists.’ Tee hee. Top tip Miss M.
Mya x

i’m afraid mine has not been able to withstand the symptoms and has moved on to second stage chronic shouting syndrome. it’s not pretty. as it’s christmas eve-eve, and the boy is down for napping and the man is on a different island for a couple more hours, i’m having the mother of all toy culls. oh BABY this place will be tidy for a handful of hours!
and be careful. the more clever they are *now* . . . i’ll just say it gets harder to out-logic them. i see miss m causing head-explosion ( of someone else, of course ) by age 7. ..

Miss M will go far ;-D
December 23rd, 2007 at 11:01 am
Hee hee, Laurie, I think I’ve seen that film. Children of the Corn was so scary. Or I was a wuss.
Cablegirl, at least she didn’t say it was me like she did last time.
Dumdad, I do mean ‘lightly’. I have tinsel brain. I will change that before people think I am even more dim than usual.
Cami, I love those hands too. They are so precious, if a little naughty.
Mya, do it. Or pretend to be sleep walking and batter her about the face and head with a bottle of Baileys. It works for other people, so why shouldn’t it work for you?
Holly, Moss E has trained us up pretty well, but Miss M may yet have a few surprises in store.
21st Century Mummy. I hope so. Even if she doesn’t, her hands probably will.

As a nurse, I can testify that I have seen all those injuries. And the Man-flu? Please. Nothing to do for it except put them (or their spouse) out of their misery.
Sheer genius to blame the hands, though. M is going to be a proper caution when she is older, isn’t she. . .

She’s a little tinker! LOL

Right, toddlers are smart,I experience it every time I go to my mothers pre-school.
December 23rd, 2007 at 4:40 pm
What a clever little girl, is Miss M. Although those hands look like they robbed a bank and got caught with a dye pack in the bag! *tee-hee*
Happy Christmas to you, Jo, and Mr. B, Miss E, and Miss M. I’d wish one to Babs, too, but she’s far to glamourous to listen to a holiday greeting from me!
December 24th, 2007 at 12:46 am
oh me oh my….what a clever one she is. That is reason 657 why I don’t have markers in my house. I just couldn’t handle it. I suppose I am just too uptight. LOL
I hope you have a fabulous Christmas Jo!

Hi Nicole. Sorry I didn’t reply earlier. You were in moderation along with a ton of spam.
Blimey, a 2.5 year old and an 11 month old. That is scary. The things they come out with are hilarious aren’t they?
And Holly is hilarious and wonderful. But I don’t tell her too much or her head may explode. Happy Christmas.
Mielikki, I am quite scared. Today, she dragged me in to the living room to show me the mess her hands had made again. Luckily it just involved fuzzy felt.
Akela. She is definitely a little tinker.
Willowtree, thank you so much, and right back at you young man.
Hi Chantal. They think so differently to us too. I love it.
Jen, Babs would listen, as you are a glamorous DJ, married to a glamorous DJ. She would let you into her posse.
Corey, I know. It’s harder when you have an older child though. Miss E tries to leave stuff out of the way but she forgets. I’m hoping once M is at nursery she’ll erm, grow out of it….
Happy Christmas sweetie.

M is really starting to THINK *wink*
Kids are just so smart….even with their little actions, don’t they just make you hate them so much at times, and love them so much that you want to keep them in your arms forever…
didn’t you laugh a little when she replied…I did! *laugh*
December 26th, 2007 at 3:28 pm
Angeline, you are soooo right. They can be little fiends, but then they give you a look and your heart melts. I had to hide my face when she replied. I was giggling so much.

And what exactly did Mr. B do at that point? I’m really curious.
