Blog

Today I had an email forwarded to me by my friend May.

It had the following words emblazoned across the subject box;

“GOVERNMENT HEALTH WARNING. ”

They were there again when I clicked on the email, followed by the words;

“DO NOT SWALLOW CHEWING GUM”, along with an attachment to open.

I was sooo scared opening that attachment. In my head I was thinking, ‘Oh my God. What am I going to see?

Will it be some gross autopsy picture with a huge great globule of gum blocking a poor unfortunates small intestines??

Maybe it will be someone coughing up a huge gum ball, cat like, but with gum, instead of hair. Bleurghhh.

Or maybe someone has morphed into part human part gum ball machine…?’

As I waited for the attachment to open, a weird, but strangely brilliant idea that I saw being used in the nearby town of Chesterfield to help people rid themselves of gum, so preventing soiled streets and gum related injuries, came into my head. (And breath).

It was a picture, of a field, full of sheep.

Not sounding too brilliant yet right?

It looked a little something like this…

These pictures were attached to lamp posts and railings all around the town centre.
The idea was, that instead of throwing or spitting your gum onto the floor, you stuck it onto one of the little sheep, so creating a ‘lovely’ 3D effect, while helping to keep the streets of Chesterfield clean and lovely.

I remember thinking, ‘Cute’, then, ‘gross’, then, well, kind of ‘cute’, again.

Anyway, as the attachment finally flashed up a photo, I squinted for a moment – like that would somehow protect my brain from the horror ..

And I saw,

this…

Big sighhhhh.

I had to share.

    Okay honeychile, just where is this town of Chesterfield located? I patroled the town of Chesterfield in South Carolina for years but always ended up with gum on the sole of my boots…don’t recall any lovely little gum sheep there…there were some town drunks that could have done the job though. Do you think they would have minded? Thanks for coming by to see me…I had to return the favor and glad I did…love your bird…is he Emu or Ostrich?

    actually they all seem to think they are stronger for it. maybe i *should* do it, and have better biceps. i don’t know how you get better biceps, but clearly , the picture shows biceps. also, they all seem to chew the same flavor. i tend to chew grape flavor. so i would not match. that’s why i’ll never get into a picture like this, and that’s not entirely bad .
