The wicked and wise daddykaos has tagged me for the book meme.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.
I am so excited.
Some of you may think that’s slightly sad. In fact, I actually think that’s slightly sad, in that, well, it’s just a meme, you know? And I could have nicked it and done it anyway, in fact, I was going to do just that, but now I am an official tagee, and I was tagged by someone kind of cool, who is the dad to someone kind of cool, and the uncle to someone kind of cool.
Anyway, back to the meme. It is the infamous book meme.
Here are the rules:
1. Pick up the nearest book ( of at least 123 pages).
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the next three sentences.
5. Tag five people & post a comment on your taggers blog so they can go see.
1. Ok, the book nearest to me is actually a book I just bought for my sister for her birthday which is on March 1st. I’ve never read it, it’s one she’s wanted for a while and I had to order it from WHSmith.
It’s called ‘Water for Elephants‘ by Sara Gruen.
It’s described as an ‘International Word of Mouth Phenomenon’, see, it has a special pretend sticker embossed on the cover…
..so it should be good right?
So I open the book up at page 123, like it says, and I scan down to the fifth sentence, and then I read.
And then I think, Bugger.
Of all the pages in the book, and of all the lines on the page, it has to be these…
And part of me wants to wrap that book up quietly, and pick another one and you know, check it, before I start to write about it. Because although I don’t mind a bit of cheekiness, or ‘adult’ content, I don’t want my blog book marked ‘Parental Guidance’ or anything.
Then I have an idea.
So, here are the three lines the meme has asked me to post.
I have made a couple of, erm, minor adjustments, but I think you’ll find they don’t take anything away from the affect as a whole…

There.
You can’t even tell what I changed can you?
And ferrets are cute right?

I mean, look at its cute little slick brown head.
Sighhhhhh.
Oh, and did you know we had an earthquake last night?
Well, we had an earthquake last night. It was actually quite scary. It was 1am, I was just dropping off, Mr B was snoring away beside me, when suddenly it sounded and felt as though a train had run into, and through our house.
Miss M woke up and was really scared, and I was a bit shaky, but Mr B turned over and went back to sleep quite happily.
All I can say is, anyone out there who lives on a major fault line, you must be mad. But it feels kind of cool to have experienced a 5.3 level quake. I never imagined I would ever experience such a thing in my life.
Now, tomorrow is my surgery. It’s nothing major, just a keyhole thing, and I should only be in one night, but I have no idea how I will feel afterwards so if I’m not answering comments or visiting you all for a while please forgive me and take care.
I have some posts ready in advance, so I will still be posting everyday pretty much, so stop by if you get the chance, but if not, I’ll catch up soon. Tonight I am going to play with my girls, have cuddles with my man, watch cheesy TV and try to relax.
I’ve never had a proper op’ before, I’ve not even had a tooth out and only ever had one filling, so I know I will be pretty terrified tomorrow morning, but hey, I’ve had two kids and I survived that, so everything else should be easy right?

Jo you’ll be fine. Try not to worry too much – although I know you will because that’s you. On no, you’ve got me all emotional. I’ll have to come back.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Oh dear, sorry about that. I was ‘all overcome’. Didn’t expect that. Be brave. You’ll be fine. Simply can’t say anything else. Rosie lost for words? Much love Jox

Oh. My. (to the book thingy) Thank heaven the earthquake was relatively minor. And rest up, luv, we shall await your return with patience and pounce upon you joyfully when next we see you. Mwah!

Wishing it all goes very well. Please let us know how it went when you feel up to it.
I just read that book. It’s AMAZING. It’s not all porn, as it would seem from this post! Very well-written and quite beautiful actually.

The Captain woke with the earthquake but we’re old hands at them. Had one a few years ago with its epicenter in Dudley of all places. On that occasion the Captain leapt from our bed, rushed to the window shouting ‘It’s an earthquake! This is the most exciting day of my life!!’ Charming. I’d like to think I’d made his earth move on more than one occasion, but it seems no ;o)
Lots of love to you for tomorrow.

i know everything will go just great. few people know this, but an earthquake right before an operation is the most lucky thing in the medical world. The thesolonians knew it, the mesopotamians knew it; my god the whole of Atlantis Knew it. now you know it. in fact, the only thing luckier than an earthquake before an op’ is having a whole pile of blog peeps loving you and wishing you well. Sadly ,the whole oj Atlantis did not have that, but you do in spades. (note to holly: you dummy, jo is British. just Say *quite a lot*. ) i mean ‘quite a lot’ . yes. quite indeed a lot .
hearty hearty- Smooch Smooch !!!!! (further note : this was rea-ea-ally hard to do on my pda. it took a lot of love and much spell Checking because i am stubborn and insisted on using the handwriting recognizer … d’oh !!! you’d think that would have made me be brief, but i needed to Show my Love.

I almost snorted my lunch (leftovers from last night, nomnomnom) out of my nose when I read that page.
Best wishes on the surgery – try to go to bed early tonight, if you can and only listen to your nice nurses

I am SO glad I read this, up in my private office, b/c I am seriously Laughing Out Loud! Ferret! LOL!!! Look…at…the…slick…brown…head….OMG!!!
I heard about your quake – rare, eh?
And good luck tomorrow – don’t worry! All will be well!
February 27th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Jo,
I thought about you this morning when I read about the earthquake – I knew the epicentre was close to you. How exciting.
Good luck for tomorrow – everything will be fine.
Mya xx

did you change any of the words? it sounds like a wonderful read full of information about ferrets, in spite of the title clearly alluding to elephants. that is very confusing, jo, why would a book about elephants have ferrets in it? i just don’t understand.
anyway. i wrote a comment from my pda. obviously, the internet deemed it not worthy, but there was some good information in it that i want you to know.
you see, having an earthquake just before an operation is extremely good luck, according to the chinese. heck, the thessalonians knew it, the mesoptamians knew it, even the entirety of the population of atlantis knew it. the only thing more lucky than an earthquake before an op is the well wishes of your bloggers, which you have lots of. the atlantis people did *not* know this. pity, because i think at least one of them had a blog. oh well. anyway, everything will go well for you tomorrow. i deem it so. after the other night’s weigh watcher’s meeting, mother nature does not f* with me. yes, i said f*. with regard to the lack of it. towards me. and now, towards you. there will be none of it towards you.
i have *not* been drinking.
February 27th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
hmm seamlessly done. I have not the foggiest idea what was changed and you’re right ferrets are cute and eer slick…
February 27th, 2008 at 3:40 pm
Hek Holly, are you on something?!! You do have a point about the well-wishers of the blogging community though.
Oops, I’m commenting on a comment and not on your post Jo, put I commented earlier, twice, and made as much sense as Holly I think.
Good luck in the morning, everyone must be phoning you because I couldn’t get through and had to leave a message. You haven’t published your telephone number online have you??!

Here is an interesting fact for you to ponder as you have your anesthetic, Jo.
Ferrets are illegal to own in California. Why? I have no clue. Celtic Rose and I are going to start a Legalize Ferrets Now! Organization. And, California also has earthquakes. Coincedence? I don’t think so.
As far as your ‘proper op’, I am sure you will be okay. I had a smallish one this year, myself, and was frightened the day of it. But it all turned out. I will send good thoughts your way from the land of earthquakes without ferrets…
February 27th, 2008 at 4:16 pm
I hate folllowing Holly’s comments….she is so clever.
YOu book made me laugh. I used to own two ferrets, so it made me laugh all the harder.
I am thinking of you my JO! I wish you a successful OP, and a speedy recovery.
hugs!

Earthquakes are terribly scary, I sympathize. Surgery is, too. I had a c-section under general anesthesia and three days later, while I was still in the hospital, there was a major earthquake. The two don’t mix well. Hope the surgery goes well and the earthquakes leave you alone! Much love.
February 27th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Good luck with the surgery. I’ve had a few and mostly no big deal. I haven’t been through an earthquake, thankfully.
February 27th, 2008 at 9:07 pm
Your meme ‘editing’ was great. And I love ferrets. And I certainly won’t be reading that book any time soon.
Good luck dear Jo on your op. Even a keyhole op will leave you with some discomfort, so demand of the surgeon a prescription for pain medication to take home (it can be given to Mr B), because you’ll be all wonky afterwards. I’ve found that making it clear to the surgeon before hand works well, and avoids calls in the middle of the night, etc.
You’ll certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.
February 27th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
I’ve never had a “ferret” before, so I don’t know if that is any fun, although I do enjoy the other activity.
Good luck with your surgery, you’ll be fine. I bet you’ll be blogging again in no time at all. Cheerio…
February 28th, 2008 at 8:20 am
Wow. Your judicious editing made it worse I think! LOL Glad I was alone in the house when I read that. What kind of books do you buy for people anyway?
Good luck with your surgery! I’m a day late, but hopefully all is well.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:06 pm
Hope all has gone well and you are resting comfortably.
Great response to the meme and the editing was wonderful, I had no idea that someone would hold their ferret like that!
February 28th, 2008 at 7:16 pm
I hope all went well!!!
