Today Miss M brought this home from school;

Me: Oh that’s lovely babe. We must clean our gerbil out his weekend mustn’t we?
Miss M: “And den she will have no germs and be pink.”
Me: “Erm, well she’ll be in a nice clean house M, but she’ll probably stay brown. ”
And me and my mum sit giggling on the settee as Miss M wanders off to annoy her sister.
Later on, as I’m cooking dinner she tugs on the leg of my jeans,
Miss M: “Mummy, my don’t want crabs on my knee.”
Me: “Pardon babe.”
Miss M: “At nursery, H said my got a crab on my knee.”
Confusion sets in and my head does this;

And I’m thinking, do they have crabs in nursery? I don’t remember there being any kind of aquarium.
Or has there been sort of horned and pincered beetle ambling across my small child’s leg?
Or worse still, was it nits? Had some vile big brother/sister accused their lice ridden younger sibling of having ‘crabs.’
OH MY BOB.
Then I remember this…
Ahhhhh. ‘SCABS.’
Blimey, there are some days when my brain can do this translation thing easily, but others? I am at a loss.
Thank Bob I’m off to Rosie’s tonight for a girlie chat and a nice relaxing beverage. I can’t imagine she’ll be asking me about pink pets or crustacean covered body parts, but then again…
And don’t forget to comment on this post if you want an opportunity to give and receive prezzies.
And one last thing.
Jillian at Blog Me Til Midnight is doing a really special project with her kids:

She says,
“We want to build a small Holocaust memorial in our front yard, so that my kids can remember all the Jews that lost their lives.
We are asking people to send us “stars” which represent the yellow stars that the Jews had to wear. They could be stars of all sorts to symbolize the lights that went out due to the Holocaust.”
We sent a couple of stars from Miss E and Miss M last week, and Jillian wondered if anyone else would like to join in. Please visit her at her blog and leave a comment and she will be in touch.

Maria, I was over at yours when you were at mine. Your little one is so beautiful, and so is her mummy.

Very funny Jo. Looking forward to seeing you later for our beverage. I assume you mean tonic water!

Somehow I knew exactly what “crabs” on the knees were.
Scary.

Kim, mostly she is. At 6 o’Clock this morning demanding to go to IJ’s she was less so.
Rosie, had a fab night sweetie. The tonic was lovely.
Susan, I should have guessed straight away, but sometimes she just gets me.
Corey, it’s funny, she used to be really scared of crabs but I think we’re getting there now. She saw some at a pet shop we visited the other day and was fascinated.

LOL! Cute! I agree, crabs on knees are quite undesirable. I love her gerbil, by the way.

no kid passes nursery in my books unless she has successfully handled crabs. it’s like teeth falling out. it just has to happen.

How cute is she!

Groovy Mom, thanks.
Holl, definitely. Crabs should be in the curriculum.
Lori, I think so.
