This weeks Fun Monday comes from the fabulous Sauntering Soul.
She says, ‘Come on, it’s confession time! List the small things you do that make you a jerk ad elaborate just a little bit on each one. Please tell me I’m not the only jerk around here!’
I like this.
Because I have many jerk like qualities.
1. I am so untidy.
If I start tidying my girls ask “Who’s coming Mummy?”
Part of it is that I like ’stuff’. I like to have it around me, and I don’t tend to actually see the room as a whole but just the bits I need. Occassionally the veil lifts and I have an enormous tidy up to the point of ruthless abandonment of once cherished items of tat. This never lasts for long though. I think I’m kind of comfortable with clutter. I love the way my house looks when it’s tidy, but it doesn’t feel as warm and cosy as I think it should.
Mr B unfortunately is less enamoured of the ’stuff’ so this causes a few problems.
2. I forget that time moves forward.
I try to fit so much into my day that even if I know I need to be out of the house by 8.30am I always try ad do just one more thing. While I’m rarely late for stuff it does tend to me that I go out make-up free and do my face at traffic lights, or my kids hair gets brushed on the way to school. I also plan a little ambitiously and then don’t achieve what I wanted to. Boo.
3. I have a really bad temper. It takes a while for me to get mad, but when I do it gets explosive and I shout. I hate that I do that but it’s just a part of me I need to keep working on.
4. I get tunnel vision. If I’m on a task then that’s all I see so other stuff gets neglected. This goes with the forgetting that time moves forward thing. It’s not good.
5. And I am a jerk for not making my list longer and preparing in advance. Miss E is poorly with a really bad earache so I have to go and tuck her into bed now.
If I get chance I will add more stuff tomorrow, but for now this is as jerky as I get as I have to be a none jerk and go look after my little girl.
Brill topic Sauntering Soul. Can’t wait to read all your jerky habits. I’m sure it will make me add to my list.

Oh yes. Untidy. I do untidy really well and I hate myself for it but I just don’t have the housework gene!
I am so laughing at your kids “Company” after you tidy up. That is priceless.
Great Fun Monday
I have a hard time remembering that time moves too and tend to overschedule my days. I never get enough done. And feeling behind can make me a jerk…
How I wish I had tidied up a bit before tiggerlambgirl called at my house on Saturday~ I just hope she didn’t notice all the dust~but I couldn’t hide the clutter~ now I could have added that to my post had thought about it sooner!
Hope Miss E feels better soon.
We’re untidy to the point of needing a visit from environmental health.
It always makes me feel good to know I’m not alone in so many of my jerkiness things!
BTW, “Odd Thomas” was great. If you like bargains and deals, you should check out http://www.bookmooch.com! I am loving it!
I am not a jerk. Ever. Er… okay, don’t read my latest post where I talk about how I screamed at my son when he was sick. That was probably a jerky thing to do
My jerkiness is that I become so focused on what I do, that the whole house can tumble down around me and i won’t notice. I also do this while daydreaming. I pay absolutely no attention to what happens around me. People could die!
Reading this makes me want to go tidy up…ok, maybe not actually DO it, but at least think about it.
What makes me a jerk? I fessed up at Nikki’s place and since I need to go tidy up, I’ll not take the time to repeat it. Just go see NikKeroo.
I don’t know - none of that sounds jerky to me.
But, I am laughing at the Tidying up part - because my kids have asked a very similar thing with me.
I’m thinking maybe you are the much younger sister I always wanted but never was lucky enough to have (no brothers either). Apparently we share a common gene here -as someone above put it {the ‘housework’ gene I think is what she called it.) Anyway, I am severely deprived of that trait but got probably a quadrupal dosage of the “clutter is better” one. I definitely could use a big swipe of the housecleaning deal here -and soon too!
My kids do the same thing! They always want to know who is coming over, when I start to clean up. Sad thing is…they’re usually right.
I giggled about #1. “Who’s coming Mummy?”
That happens here too!

Indeed doesn’t sound all that jerky to me. Sounds like areas that might need some attention, but not jerky!
oh and I ride the clutter train too. sigh…..I can only ignore it so long, then it depresses me.
My kids always ask who is coming to visit when we clean too. Maybe its more common than we think…
Ugh…my kids ask the same thing when I’m power cleaning. They KNOW by now.
To tell ya the truth, it’s hard to see any of my blogging friends as “jerks”…even after their admissions!
my daughter is just like you in your first one…her room is a mess and if she cleans it, it only stays clean for about an hour!!
I have the temper too. I try to control it, but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way.
All of this makes you a jerk huh?
Well, if that’s the case, I’m a big one too!
But I was so unsure about the definition of a jerk, that I was afraid to make any confessions what so ever!
I’ll try to read some more posts, at least I’ll have learned asomething today!
I am untidy too, I used to be neat and clean and all that good stuff, then I had a baby and I forgot how to do that, baby number 2 did not make it any better.
Well, these qualities sound more like a woman who knows her bright and dark sides pretty well. i understand what you’re saying about the anger. Like to say I don’t get angry but who am I fooling? Back to the house tidies and kids’ questions about company. I have a friend who always said that anything good that was cooked in his kitchen was on its way out the door to a church supper, etc.
I am a procrastinator.
Worse?
I have landed into a family of procrastinators.
Mustang Girl doesn’t have a chance….
I am a jerk because I am impatient and when waiting in a line for something, I begin to despise everyone ahead of me because they are so slow. Same thing with people walking too slowly on the sidewalk. Same thing when I am on hold for a long time on the phone.
I also take a long time to anger, but once I am truly mad, I yell and have and evil tongue. I get angry at injustice, the strong taking advantage of the weak, irresponsible people, close-mindedness, pettiness, poor hygiene, and unabashed ignorance that does not strive to improve.
yes, I fgear I am a jerk!
I always forget about time and never have enough of it. My kids say the same thing when they see me cleaning or if I get dressed in more than a sweatshirt, “Where are you going?” :0)
Tunnel vision? Hmmm….would that not be more like staying focused?
Fortunately my “bad temper tantrums” are directed at “things” rather than people, this is good because “things” can’t fight/answer back.
I’m all over #3. I hate that I do that, but I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one. By the way, I’ve decided to give the cookbook back..when I work up the nerve.
I see more just human and not truely Jerkakin behavior. Man can I relate to that time crunch and just one more thing.
I can almost guarantee my house is messier than yours. It takes an entire day of cleaning before I can allow someone in my house. And I should mention that my house is only 700 square feet.
I have always been a neat freak, but with Dan and the kids, that is all out the window! At times it gets on my nerves. Love your List!
Were we twins separated at birth? No. I’m older than dirt. When I clean the dogs get worried! I don’t think you’re a jerk, because I think tidy is a waste of time and I am the Queen of Overscheduling (welcome to my domain) and I invented tunnel vision. So if you’re a jerk, what does that make me?
smiles-
Patience
Thanks for visiting my ‘jerk’ Fun Monday poem at Small Reflections. I’m a little late checking in … but life’s been busier than usual for me. I certainly identify with number one of your list, but if you’re a jerk for not making your list early, then I am too ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
#3 is me too. It takes a lot, but once I reach that point I tend to explode. Usually at my hubby.
