I’m in Schmesco.
I’m alone.
As I walk past the security guard I glance at the kiosk inside the door and suddenly I have an urge. A little voice inside my head is whispering, ‘Do it. Buy one.’
I ignore it at first. I walk on past the end-of-day flowers that are beginning to nod and droop. I avoid the toy aisles, I have no child with me today so there is no insistent tug on my sleeve or little voice making promises of perfection if I allow them just one look, just for a minute.
Then I see the thing.
The wanted thing.
The needed thing.
THE thing.
And the little voice begins again, ‘Do it, buy one’ and I think, ‘maybe it’s a sign?’
So…
I do.
Bugger.
Still no Wii.

July 4th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Happy Fourth to you too … even tho you dont celebrate ‘our’ taking leave of ‘your’ wonderful colonialism-ness ..
I sooo wished that would be a winner … next time, for sure!
July 4th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Lol, I know that feeling. I went through a phase in my early 20s when every card I bought at least won me my pound back and usually a couple more. No big wins but enough to keep me going back! Those days are long gone and I join you waiting for my SVTHO!

I wants one too. I asked for one for my 30th birthday next month. 30th…that warrants Neil spending five times the usual birthday budget, right?

I buy lottery tickets every week and I’m still not a millionaire! Oh bugger just about sums it up!
July 4th, 2008 at 12:19 pm
Oooh, I’ve been getting that urge lately too. Probably because of bills related to Superdork driving and going to college.
July 4th, 2008 at 12:42 pm
and you notice how the chocolate is always right by those tickets? So when you’re at your lowest ebb and need to comfort eat, or when you’re celebrating . . . Suck you in.

July 4th, 2008 at 1:50 pm

July 4th, 2008 at 2:53 pm
I’ve had that voice on occasion too. Of course I’m a multi millionaire now. My voice must be better than yours.
July 4th, 2008 at 3:10 pm
The very first one I bought, I won $100. That was 20 years ago, and it’s the last thing I won.
Hey, what kind of amount is 7,000 pounds? why not 5 or 10?
July 4th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
It’s soooo tempting to buy one of those, the chance of such a huge reward for such a little investment. Sigh…sorry you didn’t win anything. (I finally gave up buying any as I’ve NEVER one anything with them)
July 4th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I never win with those scracth offs either. Well, once I won a dollar, but that didn’t go far.
July 4th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
Happy 4th to you as well, I got a giggle from you (the Englishwoman) wishing me (the American) Happy Independence Day… I’m so glad we let bygones be bygones.
July 4th, 2008 at 7:33 pm
We will get Wiis. If it’s the last thing Wii do.
Yeah, corny, I know.
July 5th, 2008 at 3:50 pm
Come round and borrow ours.
Wouldn’t that make a great blogpost!!
July 6th, 2008 at 12:25 am
You have a gambling problem
July 8th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
Yes, I know…I do the same thing…only mine is a power ball ticket…seems the more money to win the more people buy a ticket…maybe I should just buy the ticket when it’s only worth a little, lol!
