Fish…euurrrgh! My ex bought 2 goldfish for our daughter, Fatty and Skinny, and fatty ATE skinny. Fatty, who I think was a coy carp with a growth imbalance cos he/it was bloody HUGE, had a habit of lunging out of the tank like, well, like a fish lunger..erm. Anyhoo, I had to put a big paperback ( jackie collins or some other such fabulously trashy tome) AND a bunch of banannas ( I was desperate) to keep the lid on the tank. Hence FEAR OF FISH IN TANKS IN HOUSES…EURRRRGH!!!!!!!!

I got quite a kick out of your revulsion to fish. My favorite fish story (I have none of my own — I think they’re slimy too) is Barbara Park’s “Junie B. Jones Smells Something Fishy” in which she takes a Fish Stick (right out of the freezer) and puts it on a string leash and carts it to school for Pet Day. Hilarious.

I eat ‘em, but I’m not interested in catching them. Frankly I eat a lot more carrots than fish.
