So how were the kids at the wedding?
Truly?
Honestly?
They were amazing, in fact it’s quite possible they had been replaced by extremely realistic robots who behaved perfectly and had no toileting issues or need to cough, burp or fart at the wrong moment..
Miss E and baby J led the bridal party up the aisle with Miss M and cousin ME holding hands behind them. At the rehearsal it had become a bit of a race and at one point a very determind Miss ME managed to pull Miss M from her feet and drag her the final part of the way like a large kid-shaped relay baton. I think the priest was quite scared.
While the ceremony was on we plied them with raisins and played games, quiet games, and I bet we only had to shushhhhh them a few times.
I don’t think there was any mention of the word poo, and they didn’t join in with the two choristors who sang Panis Angelicus and Ave Maria really beautifully while the register was being signed. At one point I was expecting Mss M to jump into “I am a hairy spider, my name is hairy Fred” as she took a deep breath and turned to face me, but then baby J dropped a triangle and she dove under thebench to its rescue so the moment was lost.
We travelled to the reception on a pair of bright red London buses that played Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin as we drove through Nottingham city centre. It was boiling hot and Peppa Pig entertained Miss M as she perched next to Auntie Claire, while Miss E and Auntie Frieda and Mr B and I chilled to the music on the hot upper deck.

When we arrived it was drinks all round and photos on the lawn and we managed to keep them clean (the kids not the photos) until the formalities were over.
Then it was party time. Miss M was first on the dance floor followed by Miss E and they discovered one of the best things about being bridesmaids…
The very swirly dresses that make you feel like a princess, and the fact you can get away with almost anything now your duties are over because you look so adorable.
Even the small boy with a gun who took a fancy to Miss M and showed this by following her around and pointing his plastic water pistol at her didn’t spoil the day.

Even the fact that baby J walked down the aisle like Cinderella with just the one shoe.
Even though the chocolate fountain lady didn’t turned up as she assumed the wedding would be on a Saturday and not a Friday.
Even then…it was perfect, and Miss M found the perfect way to end the night.

And as I sat smiling at my sleepy girl, I couldn’t help feeling that the day had been a bit pants for blog fodder really. I mean, somebody could have at least fainted, fallen over or spilt their drink on a very grumpy maiden Aunt. Gits.

I apparently missed out on the Peppa Pig. Will have to track down a copy. Thank goodness for Amazon.
The bride and groom look absolutely lovely. Beautiful picture of all the bridesmaids.
@holly: about the guns… sadly, I think you’re probably right. My fellow countrymen can be a bit daft.

What a wonderful closing picture, Jo. And double-decker buses? I would have loved to be there.
Coupla years ago at a family wedding in Adelaide, it was 42 degrees – yup, Celsius!!

I love the wedding story and the photos are gorgeous. We went to one last weekend, where the kids just bounced all day…hee, hee…that makes them sound really bad but it was because there was a bouncy castle ;-D

It is rather funny that when things go well it makes sitting at the computer to report events a little on the dull side. Still, a giggled a few times regardless. Cute pictures!

Loved your report on the wedding — because every mother knows that EVEN when things are perfect we raise a mental anxiety flag, anticipating everything that *could* go wrong, but thankfully didn’t. The sleeping princess at the end is the perfect ending!
Thanks for stopping by my blog today. Fun to hear from you — always.
