They had not expected to meet a dragon when they set out that morning to visit the land of Chesterfield.
Minstrels and players, yes. Jesters and tumblers, yes. Jugglers on stilts, fairy tale princesses, men battling for the hand of a fair maiden or a free cup of mead, maybe a mad monk or two, yes, but a dragon?
As they wandered through the myriad of stalls selling all manner of wares and whimsy from suckling pig to a good pair of boots or a sand filled statue, all the time, following, stalking was the green beast.
Slayers too haunted the market and some joined them in their quest directing them to where the small plume of smoke could be seen above the crowd, while others sent them down the wrong path away from the gentle giant, an unusual but well mannered guest in their midst.
As he passed within touching distance some quivered with fear and hid behind the skirts of mothers while others stood their ground bravely and nodded respectfully at the solemn procession.
From a land far away, green and scaly it was neither as big as you would expect nor as scary as you’d expect but it was still enough to strike fear into very small girls and leave others standing with eyes wide, mouths open, mesmerized by this strange creature.
Miss M: “Granny, my don’t like dragons.”
Granny: “Will an ice cream make you feel better M?”
Miss M: “Ok.”
So Granny lifted her into her arms and carried her away to the ice cream stall, rescuer to my 3 year old damsel in distress.
Grannies and Grandads are so good at that aren’t they.

I bloody love how your Miss M talks! And this is really awesome, was it a reenactment or a festival?
Oh yes, ice cream is a sovereign cure for Dragons, you know.
It’s better if it has sprinkles though.
What a fantastic and resplendent dragon! Too bad Miss M didn’t know that dragons are quite soft about little girls
Do not piss off the dragon
For you are crunchy and taste good with Ketchup
or something like that….
Grandparents are the best protectors, aren’t they?
I am doing your wildly imaginative Me Me tomorrow….
i WONDERED where certain people in my family had gotten themselves to!
it’s okay, i don’t need ‘em here - you guys keep ‘em. i just wondered… that’s ALL.
Lilacs it was a Medieval Market in a town about 20 miles from us. It was really cool.:D
Thalia’s Child it was amazing wasn’t it? It roared softly as it passed and had smoke coming from it’s nostrils and everything. It was a boiling ht day though so I feel sorry for the folks inside it.
Mie I can’t wait to read yours. I thought of you when I wrote this too as it got me thinking about time travel.
Holly, snigger, snort, giggle, guffaw. ;D
I found you on indigo spot. I really like your style. You are a fantastic storyteller. See you tomorrow.

Writer Dad, hi. Thanks. I’m off on holiday tomorrow but will still be posting. I’ll pop over and see you soon too.
Sandy, it was such a great day, and by the end she was not quite so scared of dragons.
