Blog

Shmesco put out its Halloween stock yesterday and for the first time the choice is pretty vast. Having been in earlier in the day when I dropped Miss E and Miss M at school and nursery it was with some trepidation that we joined cousin ME and baby J after nursery for a wander and a bit of lunch.

You see, Miss M is a bit of a wuss. She’s terrified of the lawn mower, hates the hoover/vacuum and cowers from the hand dryers in public toilets. When someone set off a claxon in the local baths during her swimming lesson the other day she nearly jumped out of the pool, so what she would think of the ’still beating heart’, the ’severed head swallowing a rat’ or the ’scary man who laughs and then lifts off his own head’ I could only guess. But I had to give her a chance, I mean, this stuff is going to be everywhere for the next few weeks and I’d love her to enjoy it, so we sauntered in nonchalantly and let them discover and explore.

It seems I needn’t have worried, though I may have to educate Miss M in the correct way to wear a devil mask.

Mwah ha ha haaaaaaa.

When I saw the title of this post I was worried for you, thinking the kids had been misbehaving. So glad it’s just a giggle inducing moment instead!

I was terrified of all that stuff when I was a child. My teacher could only get the “witch on a broomstick” toy out when I was off ill. I don’t know how wusses cope nowadays! I am very impressed at your little ones!

ha! ha! I have one who is bothered by loud noises too. The scary Halloween stuff does bother her, though. She can’t stand blood and severed body parts.

Interesting….Sugar is very brave in general, but not sure what she would think of such masks.

Wait, wait, you guys do Halloween? But I thought back in the day you burned Protestants, not witches….
(kidding, kidding…sort of, even though it did happen, I don’t mean you as in YOU, you….oh, you get my point)

They’re adorable! I used to be scared to death of anything Halloween…still shy away from spook alleys and horror movies, in fact — so I’m glad your little ones fared so well.

Did the English start this ghoulish tradition then, or did it blow over from the States? We’re even starting to celebrate it here, in the ‘don’t fool with me Netherlands’. We’re all becoming Americanized, even if it is against our will. I am going down kicking and screaming.

Glad she’s come to terms with the dark side. :)
(I think it’s easier with other kids doing it, too!)

Kim they were so funny. It could have gone either way but luckily they were just kind of mesmerised by it all.

Adventure Mother, I don’t like the films and stuff but I can handle cheesy things. I made a jelly last year with with chewy bugs in it though and it made me heave even though all of it was edible so I suppose she gets her wussiness from me.

DFTF, I think it’s healthy to be a bit disturbed by dismembered things, but I like a good scare too. :D

Corey, I suppose they just saw a funny read man and not Satan himself but I know what you mean. I don’t know what M would have done if she wasn’t with her cousins.

Lilacs, I think we were pretty vile to most people at some time, but I promise I am nice, I couldn’t even salt the slug that was in my kitchen yet again last night. Shiver.

AOJ, definitely, or vamp it up in a fabulous sassy outfit.

Chareete, me too. This and Scooby Doo is about as spooky as we get. ;D

Irene, it definitely blew over form the states and it’s growing by the year. It’s kind of fun in some ways but I think it’s a generational thing too. Older people aren’t really interested, probably because they didn’t grow up with it.

Sybil, hee hee, she is one with the dark side, but only if someone is there to hold her hand. :D
