Artistic differences?

Sometimes kids just don’t appreciate fine art.

It may have something to do with a certain aesthetic maturity, a sensitivity of mind that a child as young as three is just not yet experienced enough to attain.

Their minds are still white and clear, a book not yet written so they cannot see the back story to a piece of sculpture, cannot imagine the sweat, the toil, the heartache the passion. They do not consider purpose or planning, or recognize that a creator has worked on this form until what they consider to be that moment of perfection.

Which is why when faced with the ceramic masterpiece below…

Miss M uttered the following words:

Miss M: “Mummy, why is dat slug dere?”

I wonder if that was the artiste’s vision. Snort.

Yes, but why is that slug there and you know, children very often tell the truth when we are afraid to. It may have been a lot of work, but it does look like a slug, she is right. Would you put that on your coffee table?

LOL I’m with DFTF. I am so glad I am not the first one to say it looked like poo. The wrong colour perhaps. And maybe shape. But it is what came into my head.

Cami, we have enough of those in our kitchen again. Damn the British weather and whatever vent in the wall behind the washing machine they’re probably getting in.

Irene, I wouldn’t even put it on my kitchen floor with all the other slugs tee hee.

    Sybil, definitely. Heh heh.

DFTF, why am I not surprised? ;D

I once showed my son a picture of Picasso’s work and he said ‘but it’s a bit rubbish isn’t it. I mean it doesn’t even make sense’ – clearly not a fan!
