The fun we had

On a rainy Sunday afternoon, what better entertainment is there for the whole family than a trip to Ikea?

No, really, the kids wanted to go, honest, there was no bribery involved, no promises of prezzies for good behaviour or a few minutes on the play park if the rain let up.  I mean, that would be wrong right?  Cough.

Anyway, when we arrived it seemed the whole of Nottinghamshire had the same idea.  Joy.
After finally finding a parking space we were met at the door by a freakishly tall jester who mesmerised Misses E and M with his mad skillz.

Don’t worry, that’s a balloon pump he’s holding, otherwise I would be very concerned about the smile on his face as he stands wielding his weapon beside my children.

As we wandered around the sacred realm that is Ikea, Misses E and M seemed to be carrying out their own secret mission, the holy quest of placing their bottoms on every item of seating within reach.  Seriously, Miss M even tried to scale some boxes when she noticed a flat bum sized surface at the top.  This also included sparkly new showroom toilets and very tall bar stools.  Oh the fun they had.

They also managed to find the only ‘real’ live telly in the whole of Ikea…

..and immediately took up this pose.  Part of me thinks I should see this as a sign my kids watch too much TV, but another part, the part that likes the freedom the telly gives me from my motherly duties, thinks that’s a daft idea and that they just liked the lovely big leather sofa.  It just happens that the lovely big leather sofa was pointing in the direction of a large telly that’s all.  Total coincidence.

Having purchased some lovely chunky goblets, a few picture frames, a cuddly dog for Miss M and a brand new grown up lamp for Miss E’s bedroom which I hope to work on this week, we had one more stop to make.  Because Ikea wouldn’t be Ikea without a certain thing, a piece of Ikea magic that draws me too it like, like a kid is drawn to a dead bird, and I don’t mean the meatballs.

Ikea Woodlice.  Sighhhhh.  One day I will buy one.

Or not.

I nearly bought one of those woodlice for you last time I was at IKEA. And then the realization that the shipping to England would probably cost more than the woodlice itself hit me, and I just…. I just couldn’t.

But every time I see them, I think of you :D

Without my ex husband, I think Ikea is the most fun place to go to, even if you don’t have a huge bank balance to spend. I love Ikea and to me it is better than Disneyland. But you really can’t leave without buying at least something, even if it is an ugly woodlouse. I wonder if it is researched in which countries those woodlice will sell best?

I consider myself lucky that there isn’t an IKEA anywhere near my home. I have a feeling I would spend all my savings on woodlice.
