Animal Lover?

Isn’t it weird that we often compare the things we love to other things we love?

For example I think the singer Norah Jones has a voice like chocolate, smooth and rich and velvety.  Nothing offensive there right?

So as a big nature lover I often use the medium of ‘animal’ to describe my loved ones. Misses E and M are my cheeky monkeys, or my little ladybirds.

Ok so far?

But let me give you a word of advice.  Cough.

Referring to your boyfriend’s beautiful hazel eyes, gloriously shaded with long thick lashes as being “just like a donkey’s”, and his thick smooth manly skin as being like that of “a rhino” is apparently not generally well received.

Who’d have thought it?

You just got your romantic notions all mixed up. That’s not the way to talk about your best mate. You have to flatter him as much as possible. Stroke his ego, sort to say. You do want him to stick around don’t you.

My boys (the little ones, that is), are most frequently compared to bears. I remember the day Boy #1 was born he reminded of a tiny bear cub snuffling away as I held him. So Little Bear he (and his brother) became…

Aaaaah. Thanks for reviving that memory Jo!

donkey eyes are better than something else on that animal you could have compared him too!

and chocolate would be offensive to those who are allergic to it. in that case? that norah jones crack would go down like a lead balloon. be careful, jo.

I never noticed a donkey has pleasant eyes… I have always admired cow’s eyes though… they are so soft and gentle.

LOL, too funny. I always think of things in the abstract, and in living color, so my comparisons can get a little weird sometimes too!

Funny you should mention this … recently when I was at the doctor’s office once again trying to figure out why I itch .. sigh .. she wondered about stress at the office (HA) and how things were at home … I said I know its not home/Husband because he is so wonderful (this was before he ‘forgot’ our plans and I got ticked off but I digress and this is your comment area not my blog) … he often comes to the door to meet me when I get home and he reminds me of a puppy…. WELL I mentioned this to Husband in passing and to my surprise he was offended .. ‘a puppy?’ he asked increduously .. a puppy … I tried explaining this was a sort of compliment but he stopped listening after the word ’sort’ .. men .. they just do not get it.
