I have noticed something a little weird this week. And I don’t mean my children’s talent for bottom burping, but, something else that just seems a bit odd.
Miss M turns four a week tomorrow, so we’ve had quite a few parcel deliveries from friends and family further afield, which has meant several face to face moments with our postman.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a problem with this. He seems like a nice bloke, and is just doing his job,and I’m really glad he doesn’t just shove stuff through our letterbox willy nilly but instead checks if we’re in first. But on the last two occasions he’s said, ‘Bye Jo’ before he leaves.
Is that weird??
I mean, the only way he knows my name is ‘Jo’ is from address labels on the parcels. He doesn’t know me in any other way. We’ve never had a conversation outside of ‘Hi, can you sign here, nice weather isn’t it, thanks, bye.’ We’ve never been introduced, I don’t think he knows Mr B, and I don’t know his name.
It just seems kind of odd. It’s not that I want him to call me ‘Mrs Beaufoix’ or something, that would be equally odd in that it seems kind of deferential and a bit ‘upstairs downstairs’, but well, he doesn’t know me so I kind of don’t expect to be called anything.
Maybe I’ll start calling him Pat…

Oi, Posty, if by some strange twist of fate you’re reading this, then what’s your name? Introduce yourself, then it will be less weird maybe. Ta.
And coming soon to this blog, a post where I am interviewed by three fabulous blog buddies, and where I in turn will be asking for some volunteers to be interviewed by me, with my choice of questions, mwah ha ha haaaa. I’ve been asked some fabulous ones so I’m going to need to think up some bobby dazzlers. (Whatever that means.)

I think it’s a bit odd. I’m not one to stand on ceremony but a stranger, albeit one I see regularly, calling me by my Christian name when we’ve not met socially, been introduced and I don’t know his name is weird. But, perhaps, he’s just trying to be friendly and doesn’t realise his blunder?

It’s happened to me when someone’s read my name off my credit card, and handed it back after payment saying “Thanks, Lola.” I personally think it’s out of order! Even “Thanks, Mrs Blogger” would be slightly iffy, in my book. You should hear what I say to pushy telephone salespeople…

That is a bit odd. Let’s just hope he doesn’t know where you live.

I think it’s kind of nice, but then, I am (unapologetically) socially awkward. I used to like meeting my postman out on the porch (when I was a smoker–a million years ago) and sharing small talk. I was so sad when I learned that he passed away and I wished I’d told him how these exchanges brightened my day. But then, maybe that would have been odd.

That is a little weird! But like the others say maybe he’s just being friendly?? But I’d be a bit weirded out by it too!

I think that people now frequently just assume that they are allowed to go right with someone’s given name, if they know it. It does seem odd. He probably hasn’t thought a thing about it.
Either that or he is flirting with you hoping to get a big Christmas tip come December…..
Hmm
I might feel a story coming on next week, about Jo and her Posty….

Our Postman posts and runs, ususally because there is an over enthusiastic child on the other side pulling the post out of his hand.
My friend checked her mat last week and found amongst her letters … a wrist support. She can only assume it’s the postman’s!

I find it a bit odd too. In fact I think I’d freak if our postman started calling me Akelamalu – especially as that’s not my real name. ((wink))

It all sounds very intriguing Jo. Maybe next time you should have your butler answer the door?

It’s a little over-familiar really. Look forward to the interviews!

Does seem a bit odd. We used to have a great postman, who was very friendly, never brought us post from the people who lived here seven years ago, didn’t mind the dog, didn’t mind that I pretty much always answered the door in my pyjamas and always said ‘Hello’ if we passed him in the street. He never called me by name, though, and could quite easily have done so, as he saw it so often.

Ha Dan!!!
I think we should all start sending you mail with weird names on the labels to really confuse him….
How about “Consuela Bananahammock” (a “Friends” reference for those who don’t know)…

hmmm…not sure if it bothers me or not. I’m not one who is on top of such things though.
I have some questions from Holly that I need to answer. I should attempt them tonight.
I look forward to hearing your interview.

i actually would be more worried if your name *wasn’t* on the parcels and he said your name. that would definitely make me walk to the door with a bazooka or something. a large tomato in my throwing hand? something…!

Dumdad that’s what I think. It just seems a bit odd.
Lola I would love to hear what you say to them. ;D
Dan, yes, that would be a worry.
Hilary it is in a way I suppose. I mean he’s not leery and I don’t feel threatened by him or anything. It’s just not something I would do I don’t think. Maybe I’m a bit odd.
Liz that’s what I’m going with. Friendly.
Mie that could be it, he’s after a tip, hee hee. Oh please write that story though.
Laura that is so funny. Poor posty, he must have repetitive strain.
Akela, yes that would be weird. Maybe I should be more concerned if he starts calling me Geoffrey or something.
Potty, yes, he definitely won’t know my butler’s name.
Audrey that’s what I think too.
Coding Mama (Tasha) he sounds lovely.:D
Maureen, hee hee, I should so change my name to that.
Corey I know, it’s a weird one. I have 3 lots of interviews to do. I am such a volunteer. Looking forward to reading yours though.
