Interview with a Beaufoix

I promised you interviews, so without further ado I bring you the wonderful Daryl who takes some pretty fabulous photos and makes me smile with her Toonsday Husbandisms series and Waiting Impatiently captures, and she wants to know…

1. How did you and the husband meet?

We met first of all when I was a 17 year old getting some work experience at a local recording studios.  The head Sound Engineer was none other than the fabulous singer/song writer/Guitarist and fellow blogger, Napoleon Fantastic.    Mr B was the drummer in his band and I wouldn’t have really looked at him twice in that he was a ‘grown up’ while I was a pretty naive kid.  I also had a boyfriend and he had a partner.

Roll on 18 months and I’ve left sixth form and have a summer job in a local pub, Ye Olde Ramme Inn, a classy joint where I fell victim to such witty chat up lines as; “There’s a ladder in your tights can I climb it?”, and my best friend Miss J was invited to “Get your gums round my plums.”  Nice.

I am now  single and so is he.  Miss J is seeing the guitarist from the band, Steve, who shares a house with Mr B, so they often meet us for drinks after our shift.

Anyway, Mr B starts walking me home, then he starts coming in for coffee and we chat till the early hours and smile and laugh and learn about each other, and then we go on a date.

16 years, 2 kids, 3 dogs, 1 cat and 4 gerbils later and here we are.

2. If you could go back to school and get a degree in something, would you?  What sort of degree would you get?

I have a degree in English which I finished in 2001.  I’m pretty proud of that as I began my final year with a 6 week old Miss E who went on to have colic for the first 6 months of her life.  Mr B was in his second year of a Sociology degree and the deal was that the one who had to drive or had an assignment deadline was the one who got the sleep.  Yeah, it was fun.

But another path I sometimes wish I’d followed is that of working with zoo animals in some  way.  When I worked in kennels from aged 20 to 22 I loved my job.  I was the fittest and probably the happiest I have ever been, but I always had this urge to write and decided to return to education and headed off to Uni.

I know not everybody agrees with zoos, but I believe they have a real role in education and conservation.  I would love to have been part of that.  Part of ensuring that amazing animals are kept humanely and given the best lives possible, while learning more and more about the species and so maintaining their existence in the wild for years to come.

I also get a kick out of cute fluffy animals.

3. If you could pack up Misses E and M and the husband and go anywhere on holiday – first class all the way – where would you go?  Why?

I was going to say this one is easy as I’d head off to NZ to spend some time with some very special friends, Ju, Dave and Breeze, AND Dez and Jay.  But I’ve also got a hankering for some blog meets in Canada and the US, oh and AUSTRALIA too even though I’m scared of being hunted down and killed by poisonous things WILLOWTREE and KARISMA, as well as a few European destinations, so I might have to do that too.  Then there’s the Galapagos Islands, India, Thailand, South America…

Hmmm, I think I might just have to get a Round the World Trip if that’s ok Daryl?  Ta.

4. Imagine your husband’s offered a drum gig with The Stones … would you mind if he went on tour?  Would you go?

Oh I would so want him to go.  I wouldn’t go with him for the whole thing as that wouldn’t be right for the kids, but I dare say we’d join him for part of it.  :D  He was offered a few dates in Mexico late last year with B-Movie but unfortunately not all the band could make it so it didn’t happen.

5. You are a really great mum AND you are artistic/creative .. do you think you might use this creativity and have a career after the girls are older?

Ahhh thanks Daryl, and the answer is definitely yes.  I’m working on finishing my book, have ideas for some kids poetry, and on writing stories for younger kids too.  I really need to be creative, it’s a side of me I need to express to stay sane which is why my blog is so important to me.  I’ve learnt so much over the past 20 months or so, including the fact that I am a big kid at heart and that this is the genre in which I feel/hope I belong.  Now I plan on pursuing this and following my dream.

Thanks for the questions Daryl.  Now it’s your turn people.  Would you like me to interview you on your blog?  If so, here’s what I’d like you to do.

1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. (I get to pick the
questions).
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview
someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask
them five questions.  AND let me know when you post it so I can link back to you.

And coming soon, questions from Bubblewench and the Hollster.  :D

I don’t want you to interview me, because I am the shy and retiring type and I would not tell you the truth. I would lie about everything, but I enjoyed reading your answers, because you are so honest. That’s just the way you are.

which book exactly that caused miss e to hvae colic? i want to avoid that one. i’ll bet it was something from dickens. that always gives *me* colic.

i wholeheartedly agree with zoos. they are a fantastic place to get expensive ice cream, and be peed on by bats.

    wonderful interview.
