I’m having a fit of the blahs.
The chocolate didn’t really help, but the wine and houmous are going a little way towards bringing on a smile. I should probably also stop watching the dreary TV show which is set in 1974, which apparently was a time of rain, dark clouds and lots of people who never smile and who spend their time making other people not smile too.
I’m sure 1974 probably had at least a smidgeon of sunshine. A glimmer of brightness peeking through the clouds, a tiny ray of light that makes the grass a little greener, the earth a little warmer. I was born in 1975. That’s kind of close to 1974 right?…and some of my baby pics have colour and everything in them, yet Channel 4 has decided to paint an almost monochrome world, a land of dulled, half hearted shades, of oppressive, faded burgundy, worn out green and soulless brown.
Was it really this washed out back then? Really?
It’s ok for tonight, it kind of suits my mood, but surely there was more than this dull, earthy darkness? I imagine the makers have tried to create a mood, an overall feeling of desolation and depression to echo the show’s subject matter, but sometimes the juxtaposition of colour and pleasure and life can do this in just the same way don’t you think?
Ack ignore me. I’m hormonal and a little bit tipsy I suppose and it has made me a little bit maudlin in a self satisfying sort of way. I will go to bed, read my book and dream of wascally wabbits and fluffy turtles. And maybe the lovely David.

I turned ten in 1974, and wore fabulous fashions like bell-bottomed Star brand jeans (made in Canada) and blousy floral smock tops and bright red clogs. So, there was indeed color in my world. I don’t recall being unhappy—bored maybe, and wishing I lived in a more exciting place—but not unhappy. Plus, some of the music was goovy back then, and there were some funny TV shows on here in the states too. So, buck up and try not to worry: 1974 was just fine, and so are you. Have a nice fizzy drink and wrap yourself in a soft blanket and read a happy book.

I was born in 1901, and have a mental catalog of all years with their associated colours. I can distinctly recall that 1974 was the year of the colour shortage, which required that tv succumb to a limit. Pictures were fine, in fact, they kind of went over their quota a bit. But tv was strictly forbidden to do the same. I’m surprised you didn’t know this, after I sent you that book for Christmas ‘The encyclopedia of colour and their associated yearly usages.’ Please say you didn’t just chuck it away.

LOL. OMG. For someone in a melancholy mood, you have a seriously funny sense of humor. I was an egg in 1974, but the colours I associate with 1974 is orange, lime green, and that awful red colour that appliances came in for a while.

I detest that washed out color they use in some movies and television programs. It makes me grumpy.

I happen to know that 1974 was the BEST year in history….well…it might be overshadowed a bit by 2005, but regardless..it wasn’t bleak and dull. It was fabulously polyester.

“they” are cancelling our version of Life on Mars so I must know, since I know “they” will never wrap it all up in a ribbon .. how does it end? Where was he? How does he get back? And why did he end up there in the first place. Didya know Lost seems to be stuck in 1976ish time right now …
You were talking about Life on Mars .. werent you? Oh wait, you mean this isnt the chatroom on imDb?
