Jobs, Vikings and Blood

Blog, pmdd

It’s been a mad busy day today.  I’m applying for a job at E and M’s school and nursery.  It’s a big step for me healthwise but would be ideal in lots of ways.  It’s amazed me that I feel well and ready to do this, especially in our current situation, but I suppose becoming a single parent has made me want to fight a little harder for a future for my girls as well as myself.  This job would be a perfect toe in the water, and probably permanent resolution for me, in that it would allow me to return to work in an environment I know and am comfortable in, and would mean I would have time to write as well.

I know I have to tell myself it’s unlikely I’ll get it as there will be so many applicants with more experience, but I’m totally capable of doing the job and as it’s just 18 hours a week, if I’m having a rough time with the pmdd I can always rest in the afternoons for an hour or so.

Tonight I have been completing my application form, phoning referees (not sports ones – none of them would know me), while at the same time attempting to finish a viking costume for Miss E for a school ‘Long Boat Day’ on Thursday.  I also need to register to write to my fab cousin Vicki who is currently in Basra on her second tour as an RAF nurse.  (Love you loads babe if you’re reading this.)

Tomorrow is also a day of madness as in the morning after I take the girls to school and nursery, I volunteer for two hours with a year 3 group, then I get Miss M from Nursery, take her swimming, have lunch and then I am giving blood.  I’ve never done it before so I’m a bit nervous but I cope alright with blood tests so I’m sure I’ll be fine.  The weird thing is though, when I mentioned I may have Miss M with me, they said that would be fine and that she could sit on my bed for 45 minutes.

Erm, hello, she’s 4!!

Apart from the fact she had her pre-school boosters about 2 months ago and now worries about having ‘pins’ stuck in her legs every time we go near the doctor’s, she also nearly puked when she watched me having a blood test the other week.

Add to that the fact that,

…SHE’S FOUR NICE LADY ON THE PHONE,

that’s

JUST FOUR YEARS OLD.

FOUR FOUR FOUR

There is no way on Bob’s earth she is going to sit still, quietly or calmly on a bed for 45 minutes while a tube sucks blood out of my blumming arm.  She’s more likely to vomit all over the crisp white linen, or swing from the equipment and nick all the nice biscuits.

Thank Bob for grandparents, that’s all I can say.  It would have been mayhem.

I’ll let you know how I get on tomorrow night, unless I’m too weak and in need of cream cakes and David Tennant.  ;D

Thinking of you. I hope you get the job. It sounds like a great step in the right direction. :)

oh and really good luck on the giving blood. I am usually too low on iron…..and the one time I did it….I got really dizzy about half way through. I think I freaked myself out, and when I realized it wasn’t so bad….got a rush of adrenalin, and man did I get woozy.

That’s absolutely fantastic that you’re applying for this job. And don’t tell yourself that you probably won’t get it – visualise the exact opposite. That you do get it and that you’re great at it and that it is better than you could have possibly imagined and that everyone you are working with thinks you are brill and wondered how the school ever successfully ran itself without you. Okay – maybe a bit over the top, but you get the gist. If it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be. But it’s not going to hurt by believing 100% in yourself and knowing that this ‘perfect’ job has presented itself in your life right now for a reason.

Ooh – and good luck with giving blood. Have only done it once (they won’t accept my pikey British blood over here in Chicago…something to do with the fact that we’re all infected with mad cow’s disease and it’s only a matter of time before the whole nation will be mooing in chorus). Make the most of eating lots of biscuits tomorrow – it will be your sole responsibility to keep your blood sugar levels up! x

Hope you get this job, but as you say, there will be a million people applying for it. Part-time, school/nursery job? Probably a trillion.

Good luck on both the job and the blood. I’m not allowed to donate, although I used to before I was diagnosed with my bleeding disorder.

Several years ago I tried to donate blood but fainted and was sick! I was determined to try again and now I have just given my 5th donation! Last year they wouldn’t take it as I was anaemic but it certainly has never taken 45 minutes to actually get the blood out but it does take time filling out forms, waiting around and then after there is all the tea, biscuits, crisps etc!

    Best of luck x

Oh, I do so hope you get the job, because you deserve it most and I know you can do it. You’re god with kids and you’re a smart woman, so they just have to hire you.

Good luck with donating the blood. It is very good of you. If you get free cookies out of it, all the better, and a nice cup of tea with sugar in it, I hope.

Best of luck with the job application, and well done for making the decision to apply. It’s great that you’re giving blood tomorrow – I have used lots and lots of blood in the past, as have two of my children who wouldn’t be here now without the blood bank, so I am ever indebted to those who donate.
