You may remember a while back I wrote a couple of posts featuring the DfT Children’s Road Safety Campaign??
Well not only is there a new ad…
..which I really like even though it is still kind of dark and sad. (As usual any opinions on this would be interesting.)
..and a fab new game that encourages your children to find a safe place to cross,
..but also, (and here’s the fun bit) the DfT are heading a campaign regarding the safety of kids on bikes which includes a competition, and these 5 handy cycling tips:
· Use your head! – make sure you are wearing the right size helmet and it is fitted correctly
· Be bright, be seen! – wear light, bright reflective clothes and accessories
· Size matters! – ensure your child’s feet can touch the floor comfortably (bike is not too big or small)
· Bright ideas! – accessorize your bike with lights and reflectors, and ensure they are kept clean.
· Safe Place to Ride! – Stay on cycle lanes and get off the bike and walk if the road looks too busy
So, the competition.
The lovely folks at Think Parents have provided myself and three other bloggers with a fabulous prize to give away.

Cute aren’t they? (NB. Quilted throw not included.)
There are boys prizes too, so head over to visit DJ at Chez Aspie, Caroline at In Search of Adam and the fabulous Susanna at A Modern Mother for 3 more chances to win.
I’m keeping it simple here competition wise as my brain is still a little frazzled from last night, so it’s names in a hat time people. If you would like the chance to win the above piece of loveliness for your child, or your friend’s child, or yourself (cough, weirdo, cough) then please leave me a comment below with your name and the words ‘I want to ride my bicycle’, and I will do the necessary. The winner will be drawn next weekend and announced on Sunday. Worldwide bloggers, none bloggers, lurkers and one off visitors who are looking for something else but find me may all enter, but no hamsters.
And if your child cycles on or near the road, or will be doing so in the near future, then have a look here for simple but life saving safety tips AND the opportunity to win a brand spanking new bike.

That saddle-cover raises a number of comments utterly inappropriate to the subject of cycling safety.

The cycling proficiency thingummy is on at my boy’s school. I think it should be compulsory though. Less than half his class are doing it.
I’m back from me jollidays. And I had a good time. Come see some photos!

I don’t want the prize (shipping is too expensive) but the fact that I couldn’t get the video (just the audio) made it very dark indeed!

A touch macabre methinks…..reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes and the infamous safety poster “be carefull or be roadkill”.
What’s most disturbing about the video is the ending, where the little kid with the mashed up arm is still standing at the bend in the road….destined to repeat his mistakes, while the other kids happily jaunt across in the foreground without a care in the world…….and why oh why (he said facetiously) don’t those other three kids have enough civic mindedness to call out to their injured friend and get him to cross the road with them in the safe crossing spot? what kind of message is that to send to kids?
erm……yeah ok. it’s just an advert.
oh, and ‘I want to ride my bicycle’ pink bike gear would, i feel, really complement my stubble

What a fantastic idea, great websites full of information. Amy is sooo into Bratz. And she’s going to be having proper bicycle lessons when she starts her next school. But she’s a big girl and is already using a Junior bike, big enough for a grown female!

I want to ride my bicycle.
As no-one else has put the correct words in the comment box, I should win.
I want that stuff now and I want the duvet cover as well.

Do you remember the 70s road safety ad with the funky rap: Don’t step out when you’re close to the edge/’Cos you may find that you may lose your head.
Loved it.

I want to ride my bicycle! My husband promised me one for my birthday on April 13th and it still hasn’t materialized. I run after the children as they skateboard and bicycle to school, it keeps me fit, kind of, but not really. Half running after a skate board on the pavement beside a polluted road, doesn’t really do it for me. Belle would love all those pink accessories though, particularly as she has a red hand me down bike from her brother. xxx
