Are you dancing?

Blog

Today I am happy.

Nothing can spoil it.

Even if a cart load of monkeys turned up and trampled my nice clean washing and daubed the words “You smell of monks cassocks and your favourite food is dried lentils on toast, loser!” all over my front door, I would be happy.

Why?

Well, Miss M turns 5 in January.  At her nursery the cut off point for moving into reception (as in staying at school all day, wearing a uniform, being a big girl) was the end of December,

So?

Well, it meant all her friends, that’s the kids who have been in nursery with her since she started 17 months ago, would have been going up a term earlier than her.  She’d have had to watch them have their visit, all smart and adorable in their new uniforms.  She would have been separated, set apart, labelled as younger, different, other.

Ack I know this probably sounds like a fussy Mum talking, but I was so worried for her.  She’s only really made good friends since Christmas after her fab ‘but kind of possessive at times’ older cousin moved up to big school.

She’s been through one hell of a year what with myself and Mr B splitting, then moving house, getting used to sharing a room with her big sis, only seeing Daddy at weekends etc.

Her two best friends in the whole world ever would have been going up without her.  These are the kids she hugs when she sees them and sends letters to every day.

I know, I know, she’s doing ok, but she’s only small and it’s been rough at times.  So the thought of her being separated from her best friends in September and having to make new ones in a group of younger kids through the Winter term, only to then be separated from them in January and returned to the older and now already established group…well it just seemed a lot to ask of her little soul, and I was worried.

But TODAY, today we got a letter and they moved the date to the end of January.

HOORAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY

YIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Doing the a happy dance people.  Can you see me dancing?

Dance dance dance

So we went shopping and bought her a school summer dress.  The age3-4 was too short so she has a long enough but kind of baggy aged 4-5 summer dress and cardy for her visit which is a week tomorrow.

She looks so cute and my heart may well burst with relief and pride and joy.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Of course now will come the ‘Oh no my youngest child is off into the big wide world and I have no little ones left at home and maybe I’ll just shrivel up and turn into an empty husk of a woman without a small child around for me to nurture in the daytime’ and all that stuff.

But ack, it’ll be fine.  I’ll get a puppy.  Either that or the gerbils are going to get frighteningly spoilt over the Autumn/Winter term.  Hmmmmmm.  Wonder if they like play-doh?

Oh, and on the subject of schools and kids and things, I’ve been asked to remind UK working mums and dads about the Busy Bees Childcare Vouchers Scheme.  Apparently not enough of us are using them and they can save you money people.  Have a look here and see if you qualify.

And if you’ve not entered my competition yet there’s still time and all you have to do is leave a comment letting me know you want in.

Cool. And I think it is great that she has got bumped, and that you cared that much about it.

I’ve been buying school trousers myself today. M and M will be in the same school year.

So pleased for you honey. Yep, had all this last year with R and got it all to come with E in a couple of years. Don’t think the stress ever stops. But yay….take lots of photos of her in her uniform x

    Hi there, delighted for you.
My babies were born on Sept 07 and Aug 08, in theory the same school year. Would I be an overly fussy mum if I spoke to the school now about options?

Yay I am glad she got bumped up too. Don’t even talk about School Uniform. The joy of having a 10 year old who is as tall as a 14 year old means I go through hell trying to find uniform to fit.

That’s fantastic news! It’s so cute when they wear their uniform for the first time. I felt such a mixture of pride, love and a pang of longing for the toddler I’d never see again – now transformed into a Big Girl.

I am far too tired to dance, but I am thrilled that she gets in with the other kids!! It is something small, but small things sure make life easier, don’t they? :)

At first I didnt get what the problem was, I think its english vs English .. anyway, now I do and I am here to tell you that in the US back in the dark ages the cut off for beginning Kindergarden or beginning in First Grade was January 31, I was born Feb 7 .. so I didnt go to Kindergarden, no, I started First Grade when I was 5…which explains why I am so socially inept
