Two Under Fives Dupe Parents

Today I have two sick children in my house, Miss M, and my niece, cousin little J.

While Miss M sleeps, I prepare two sofas with blankets. I pile appropriate dvds beside the TV and ensure apple juice is in the fridge, tissues are close at hand and medicines are within reach.

Today I have two sick children.

School and nursery are informed of Miss M’s temperature and little J’s tonsils. Granny arrives in good time to collect Miss E and cousin ME. And my sister-in-law Helly, arms me with medical supplies for little J, including chocolate mousse.

Today I have two sick children.

Having dined on yogurt, they are now upstairs. There is the occasional cough, but otherwise only happy sounds fill the air. The bumps and bangs of play, the clatter of pop-up-aliens, the chattering, laughing, sounds of two small ’sick’ girls.

Sick?

Mine do it to me all the time. And I’m mean and send them to nursery if I possibly can, but those times I let them stay at home – very often they just have a brilliant time.

Hope they are feeling better soon… and how lovely for them to have a comrade in illness to help while away the time.

I normally end them too but M was still iffy this morning and J has been so poorly with tonsillitis that we just couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. They have had a lovely day though. Little sods. :D

you must remember how cool it was when you managed to pull that one on your own parents! and to be able to do it when there’s two of you? Awesome!

Sounds similar to my experience last Friday. I picked the 5 year old up from school because she was feeling sic. On the way home she asked if we’d still be going to tuck shop later. Then when home she watched TV and had a nice lunch with Daddy.

I am ususally the other way. I think that they are better and send them to school or preschool and get called to pick them up. My boys are not ones to lie on the couch and chill even when really ill. Infact when MaxiMad was seriously ill two doctors at ER missed it as he was so active and happy!!

Mine are like that too. They have a wild time when their temperature comes down, then lie down when it goes back up, then it’s up again when it comes down. Mad. We were in hospital with Miss E when she was about 19 months and she did this through the whole night. I was a bit tired after that…

And then when they’re teenagers and really are sick, there’s nothing that will keep them from going to school because they miss so much work even with one day off.

Know just what you mean, sometimes have the same with Amy! But on the whole, I’d rather hear the occasional cough and a lot of laughter!

I do love it when they’re all snuggled up on the sofa, malingering. Especially now when we can watch really crap decorating shows together x
