Today was one of those proud Mummy days. My little girl had her first speaking part in the school play. No wait, I’m lying. In nursery she was Mary in the nativity and uttered the immortal words, ‘Joseph, I’m going to have a baby’ in a tiny voice that only the front row could hear. Heavily pregnant with Miss M, I sat blubbing and feeling unbelievably torn between running up and relieving her nose of its dangling candles, or letting her be, as maybe that would mortify her. I let her be, and luckily you can’t see the snot in any of the photos.
Today though, there were no runny noses. Her voice was clear and calm, and she interviewed a very silly innkeeper and a very pregnant Mary in a manner very much befitting a ‘Social Affairs Correspondent’.
Having practised her lines for the past month I think we were pretty much all word perfect, but I doubt very I could have stood up there and spoken those words as well. Not without several trips to the toilet, a very red face and a case of the shakes anyway.
My niece ME spoke her line with equal fabulousness in the year 1 and 2 nativity yesterday, which they also signed, so now there is just the Foundation Unit’s performance to go which both Miss M love and little J will be performing in on Monday.
Tissues will be at the ready, as will the camera. These things always get me but they’re one of the best things about Christmas. I hope your little ones (and big ones) do just as well as ours have so far.

For some reason I always forget to include the Social Affairs Correspondent in our navitiy scene. Will have to correct that!
Glad it went well!

Gosh, does anyone really use the word ‘glad’ any more, or in fact the word ‘gosh’?!!

I never realised what tear jerkers nativity plays were until I had kids. They should come with a health warning. Honestly. I cry at other people’s children doing well for goodness sake. God help me when I have two of mine in the same show next year. I’ll need to take strong sedatives before hand. Well done to your talented star.

Little S performed his nativity in front of the school today and apparently did really well. We’re going to see him on Monday and can’t wait! We’ve been practising his song long enough and I know he’ll get it right! x

Good luck! We’re on performance number 5 tonight. One of my girls (can’t remember which one) is a sheep. She is not very happy about it.

I think you did the right thing on the ‘nose candles’.
I’m quite excited about when we get to this stage, although I fear becoming a pushy mother!
Congratulations to your little leading lady!
(Oh and let Rosie know I say ‘Gosh’)

Amy had her nativity yesterday. I found it amusing rather than tearjerking – mainly becase she wouldn’t stop bossing people about the entire performance

I was in tears yesterday at the nativity too

Oh yes, nativity plays are the best. Aged about 3, son left the stage where he was supposed to be being a shepherd and came to sit on my knee, saying “I can’t see it properly from up there”.
