Blog

This is a shrew.

shrew

But then you knew that right?

Except,

It’s not just a shrew.

It’s special.

Because on December 31st every year, it evolves, just for a moment, into something else.

It becomes…

shrew new year

The New Year Shrew

Sighhhhhh.

Is it not beautiful?

All year round it does normal, everyday shrew stuff, such as:

  • Chasing stag beetles around small anthills
  • Reciting Wordsworth to foreign dignitaries at Buckingham Palace
  • Foraging for seeds, insects, nuts, worms and handbags
  • Dancing to Bee Gees songs

BUT, for two days, it is unique and powerful and able to create joy and magic and hope (and occasionally chocolate crispy cakes).  And if you are grumpy it will bite you on the bottom.

So don’t be grumpy, be hopeful.  There’s a whole New Year ahead of us.  If last year was a bit pants, well this year might be ok, or fabulous, or at least a bit less pants than last year.  It’s unknown, unexplored, undecided.

Happy New Year from the Beaufoix’s and from the Happy New Year Shrew.

Thank you for being there through what’s been a hell of a year for myself and my family.  Thank you so much for reading, thank you so much for commenting and thank you so much for still coming to visit me even though I’ve been more absent than I planned to be this year.  I really do appreciate it, and hope to visit more often in 2010.  Although in some ways it’s been a year of controversy in the UK blogosphere, there truly is a wicked community out there (in the UK and beyond), and I’m very proud and happy to be part of it.

Chin chin lovely people.

Here’s to 2010.

Bring it on.

Happy New Year to you, Jo. The blogosphere is a richer place because of you (richer as in a richer experience, not as in more money…).
