This week Tara has asked for photographs from outside your front door. The thing is, I live on a fairly simple, fairly narrow little street. We love it here. We love our little house. But, well, if I took a picture of our view it would be a bit weird. In fact, it’s quite possible I could be arrested, as it would be a lovely capture of my neighbour’s house. If I used a zoom you’d be able to see their enormous telly, the lovely wood pannelling they seem to have everywhere, and a weird family snap depicting them gurning at a wax work of Simon Cowell, definitely an argument for net curtains in my opinion, but you would learn little from it except that:
a My neighbours obviously do not read my blog
b I am quite possibly a stalker or at least some kind of peeping Tom Jo
c You would not want to live opposite me
So I have cheated a little…
A few weeks ago when I stayed at a friend’s house I took these picture’s literally outside their front door. It was one of those moments when the sun is bright, you’re feeling good and the scene before you is completely at one with your mood.

We often walk along the canal path with a large black lab who occasionally takes a dip. The swans are beginning to nest and the ducks and moorhens bob in and out of the reeds in search of bread, minnows and possibly a couple of small frogs who crossed our path recently.

These trees always remind me of my friend Emma’s garden where the sheltering leaves of an ancient Willow with a gnarled trunk bent by nature into seats for four small children; became everything from castle to spaceship. This summer I’m thinking a gingham cloth, some crusty bread, grapes, cheese, olives and sundried tomatoes might look rather nice spread beneath its shade, with maybe a bottle of White Zinfandel cooling in the river. Sighhhhhhh.
So it isn’t my front door, but I am adopting it. I love it there.
This post was written for yummy Tara’s Week 6 Gallery theme Outside my Front Door. Go and enjoy. And also, if you get chance and are in search of inspiration, head over to lovely Josie’s and check out her weekly writing prompts. I’ve still not got round to doing one but it’s good to know they’re there.

Sigh. Makes me think of spring walks and lazy summer days. But it’s raining outside at the mo so am just going to have to make do with your pix!

I sometimes consider net curtains when I realise my neighbours can probably see me doing “yogo” or dancing with my 3 year old. Not a good look though. Adopting a front door is a great idea, your friend’s outlook is beautiful.

Lovely.. for some reason I thought this might be a post about Jehovah’s witnesses.. so I’m very glad it’s not.. not that I’ve got anything against them.. they just try too hard to adopt me every now and then.. and I’m happy with my beliefs.
Lovely pics.
