I have learnt a little something about calm. It is something I hadn’t realised.
Tidy can be calm.
We’re kind of a messy household. Surfaces get covered. We live in layers, and though I mostly know where stuff is it’s not an easy way to live.
I tell myself it’s because we like ’stuff’. I tell myself it’s because our house is so small, or it’s because we have so much. I tell myself it is because my meds make me so tired and I just can’t keep up. It’s all of these things and none of them. Our house is messy because we are messy.
But at Celtic Haven it was tidy. Everything had a place. And it was calm, we were calm.
E and M slept easily and quickly the first night, and I did too, which would actually be classed as genuine miracle if the pope knew about it.
I think the high ceilings, and the gorgeous beams and uneven, undulating pale blue and fresh apricot walls helped too, but mostly it was the tidy.
I’m not saying I’m a complete convert – that would be weird, but seeing the calm that came with the tidy, I reckon a few changes wouldn’t be too bad.

Then again, Miss E and her friend L always say “A messy kid is a happy kid’ so maybe I’ll start tomorrow…
Don’t get your hopes up too much though Mum.
P.S This week is anti-bullying week. Please read my post ‘This Child‘ about a little girl I once knew… Bullying effects so many children at some point in their lives. We can’t always prevent it, but there are places we can go to to help.

I am a great believer in everything has a place and a calm head is a happy head. When I was really down the house was a mess, but once I got on top of it I felt much better. It is OK for toys to be everywhere, just as long as the boys tidy up a wee bit

Hee hee, I think you’ve got it right. I know I’ll never have an immaculate house, but that’s ok. Right now though, well, it probably reflects my head. I actually feel quite excited about getting a bit more sorted.
