In December a little invite dropped into my inbox
Now I’m no cook. I know I should cook, but I’m a vegetarian single mum with one child who will occasionally eat what I eat, and another who is the Queen of Bland. (Miss M I am talking about you), so the chance to see a real life chef in action at the Portland Cookery School, and speak to a real live dietician, ( I know Nic, I have you, but still this is kind of exciting and you still have one more year of that degree left, and nobody really listens to one of their best friends when it comes down to food because, well, we have shared chocolate ice cream, cake, wine, vodka, and lots of yummy none-healthy things and I know we will again sooooooo..)
SO I said yes.
And we braved the train, and the tube, and a taxi, and it was good.
James Tanner is completely lovely and really spent time with all of us. It truly made it a day to remember and oh my bob you can tell he’s a dad, he was brilliant with the kids.

Here he is cooking with Miss E. (So proud)
And he actually got Miss M to try chicken, in fact not just chicken, TANGY chicken!!
Dietician and nutritionist, Azmina Govindji, was equally warm and very bubbly and gave us the most fantastic tips on encouraging kids to eat well.
Her advice?
‘Always have 3 colours on your dinner plate.’
How simple is that and yet how brilliant? Never mind my kids, I know that one’s going to help me too! (Bad Jo)
What else did we discover?
Well, there really is cheese in Dairylea and they’re really trying to make it much healthier, and succeeding. Look, I have proof!

We watched lovely Lynn make some, and she added lots of proper cheesy cheese,as well as telling us the new recipe has much less salt and that Dairylea has always been free of artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, so it’s ‘perfect for an occasional snack bit not every day’ – very honest.
This fab day ended with lunch at the Rainforest Cafe which blew my little monkeys away

This was the ceiling above our table, how cool is that??
All in all it was a brilliant day with a bunch of very lovely people (you know who you are) and it was just what E and M needed to take their minds off our house move, which is now less than a week away.
This isn’t a sponsored post, it’s a thank you. We had a lovely time Dairylea, and you’ve got yourself a fabulous team.

So three different coloured smarties is a healthy dinner!
Did you know that the Dairylea box is 10cm across. They told us that in ante-natal classes, when they were trying to explain what 10cm dilated meant. I’ve never forgotten.
