Miss M is a fury of motion. Her right arm creates a mass of spiralling curls across the page as Brian May seems to be taking shape before my eyes.
Me: ”Wow M, that’s a gorgeous curly haired person you’re drawing babe. Is it Rapunzel.”
Miss M: ”It’s St Paul Mummy.”
She doesn’t look up but continues her artistry. The bloke in the fright wig is tall, but OMG his hair is taller. It stretches beyond his knees, but also up towards the sky, a mad topiary of mousy brown crayon. And I’m thinking…how does she know St Paul had a gi-notmous affro?
Me: ”Why are you drawing St Paul babe?”
Miss M: ”Because he wrote about the great fire of London Mummy. We’re doing it at school.”
Me: ”Erm, I think you’re getting a bit mixed up hon. St Paul wasn’t around during the great fire of London. Might it have been Samuel Pepys?”
Miss M: ”Mmmmmmmm, maybe.”
Unperturbed she continues her masterpiece and later when Granny arrives presents it to her with pride, her head held high, chest puffed out and eyes glowing.
Granny: ”Oh M this is lovely. What beautiful hair.”
Miss M: ”Yes Granny, it’s St Peeps.”
Me and Miss E: ”Snort. Giggle.”
Granny: ”??”

Priceless. Reminds me of the time one of our friends claimed to know Tutankhamun while my child was doing her school project. ‘Eh?’ was the obvious response until the friend apologised and exclaimed ’Sorry I thought you said Tooting Common’! Sending stressless moving vibes.
