So did Weetabix get us through our big day??

Blog

Well it got us to Kings Cross and then over to Buckingham Palace in time for the changing of the guards.

Yes I know my kids are hairy, but we don’t mention it so shush.

We say a quick hello to Queen Vic then find a cosy spot next to some friendly Aussies; and wait.

The sun shines, we avoid several low flying pigeons and an hour later it begins. Miss M spends most of the time in my arms or on my shoulders, and it’s all very very lovely, honest, but it goes on a bit too long so we escape/move on and actually get a better view by trying to cross the road and being stopped at the barrier by a friendly wpc

Look you can see the red tufty thing on their helmets and everything.  E and M were mesmerised.

After a quick lunch at Starbucks we collect our tickets for Buckingham Palace and plonk ourselves down on the grass to wait for our slot and take in the ambience.  E and M peruse the guidebooks and M begins spouting Shakespeare.

NB  Not really, but she looks all poetical.  Maybe she was channeling some long dead monarch or something?

I have to admit I’m not big into the Royals as you might have guessed from my Royal Wedding post but the history and the sheer opulence in that place is truly breath taking.

Yes we saw the dress.  Grace Kelly/tiny waist/very high shoes/quite big feet, but it was more exciting to see the paintings, the sweeping staircases, the stunning minutely detailed mouldings and the huowge great big gorgeous doors that opened into every room.

After enjoying the audio tour which includes a fab kid friendly version for M, we take tea in the Royal Garden.  As my Dad eyes up the Queen’s gazebos, my Mum, E, M and I eat the Queen’s cakes and drink posh tea and apple juice.

I quite fancy sneaking out one of the cute blue trays but make do with a paper cup which E insists on keeping till we get home, when I am allowed to bin it.  E and M are presented with a treasure hunt type thing to do in the Royal Gardens which is great as we would otherwise have just walked past the trees with the heart-shaped leaves and the royal woodpigeons.  (cough)

All too soon our visit is over and I place blinkers over Misses E and M as we make our way through the gift shop and head for the exit.  (Pens £5.95!!!)

We jump on a tube, head for Piccadily Circus and arrive just in time for our 5pm booking at The Rainforest Cafe which E and M fell in love with when we were lucky enough to cook with James Tanner last time we were all in London.

M became a butterfly for the evening, we ate some yummy food and had just enough pennies left to treat E to ANOTHER tiger and M to a tortoise before once more boarding a tube and heading to Kings Cross and then home.

Miss M and I have huge smiles because we have had such a lovely busy day.  Thank you so much Weetabix.

Sadly Miss E and Granny have huge smiles for a very different reason…

So did Weetabix get us thorough our big day??

Well it got us through to just before the changing of the guards at 11.ooam, which considering we ate breakfast at  6.30am is pretty good going.  There’s definitely something in that slow-release energy thing you know.  ;D

Thank you so much for our Big Day Weetabix.  We had a blast and will continue to be firm fans.  Whether you like it soft and soggy like my 7-month-old nephew, with just a splash of milk and some banana like Miss E, or hard and crunchy with absolutely no milk (yes I know, weird) like Miss M, weetabix really does set you up for a busy day.

Have you had yours??

Disclosure:  Weetabix treated us to this fabulous day in London, but the thoughts and opinions are all my own.

I laughed at your remark about the gift shop pens. On our very last day in London, in fact with only 3 hours before our flight home, we made our way to Green Park, pulled our unwieldy suitcases over to Buckingham Palace, and around the corner to the Queen’s Gallery gift shop. All so my daughter could buy ten souvenir pencils (the kind with the crown on the top) for herself and friends.

I did a lesson recently with my class of 8-9 year olds about healthy eating, and we talked about the benefits of a decent breakfast and I explained the slow release of energy given by cereals. It wasn’t surprising (to me at least) that when we did a straw poll of the class it was the children who have trouble concentrating who regularly came to school without any breakfast at all.

Anyway, it sounds like you had a great day out. If Weetabix want to send us to New York for the weekend we can be available at very short notice *cough*

It was such a good day lovely. E and M were really good and it was great to tick this off our London to do list. Now we need to do all the museums, galleries, Madam Tussauds, HMS Belfast, The Tower, The London Eye, and ohhhh a few others. :D
