Today Miss E and myself are off to Notts to be ladies wot shop and ladies wot lunch.
Tomorrow she will be 11 years old.
Miss M will be spending the day with Granny while E and I have some Mum and daughter time together.
So that’s myself and Miss E, my Mum and Miss M.
Four girls.
Four women.
There is something else happening today that statistics say will affect one out of the four of us, and as I watch my kids play I don’t really want to think about it…which is why campaigns like ‘1in4women’ have to happen.

Today, domestic violence is the biggest issue affecting women and children in this country.
For the last three years Refuge and Avon have worked together to raise awareness of this horrific crime and to support women suffering in silence. Many people know that one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, but few know that twice as many are affected by the scourge of domestic violence.
On Thursday 11 August 2011, a new Facebook App will be revealed which will show you what 1in4women could mean to your world. The 1in4women campaign calls on women to learn and recognise the signs of domestic violence so that they can support a friend who might be suffering now, or in the future.
With only 16 per cent of women reporting incidents to the police, the majority of domestic violence is suffered in silence. We hope to empower women with the skills to help make this stop. But to do this we need to create mass awareness of the issue and of our campaign.
1in4women campaign launches on Thursday 11 August. Please join us and speak out against domestic violence by downloading our 1in4women app and tweeting about the campaign:
#1in4women experience domestic violence. I’m supporting @Avon_UK & @RefugeCharity to help break the silence http://www.facebook.com/oneinfourwomen
On any given day, Refuge supports 1,600 women and children through our national network of refuges and community based support. It costs us £10million every year to provide our life-saving and life-changing services and from every £1 we fundraise 83p goes directly to our services.
Refuge is committed to a world where domestic violence is not tolerated and where women and children can live in safety. To find out more, please click here: http://refuge.org.uk

Very well done for highlighting this campaign. I wrote my dissertation about domestic violence back in the late 80s and have worked at various refuges over the years. I shall certainly be supporting. x

Wow, I had no idea that domestic violence affects as many as one in four women. That statistic really is shocking! I hope more and more women gain the confidence to report domestic abuse to the police. It’s sad that so many women feel trapped in a relationship like that.
Thank you for sharing this x
