Sometimes you have to push your kid a little. Just a little. Like when they’re feeling tired and ill but it’s their last rehearsal before something very special. When I say push I don’t mean shouting, bribery, threats. I mean hugs, reassurance, encouragement.  Because sometimes stuff is too special, too important to miss. Last night Miss E made her debut with the Cantamus  Training Choir at Southwell Minster. It’s a big deal. E isn’t the most confident child and on Friday had a few colly wobbles  but it was one of those times where you know that if they don’t do it they’ll regret it. Hugely. After a busy, emotional, exhilarating first term at secondary school including an eye infection, a virus, an asthma diagnosis and a trip to the orthodontist for the first time, E is kind of knackered, but she’s still managed 3 hours of singing lessons and rehearsal each week with the award winning local choir. Not once has she moaned. She comes home from Friday practice in the daftest mood and sings her heart out for the rest of the week. I love it. So I know she wanted to do it. I know she needed me to push. So I did. And she did it and I couldn’t be more proud of my little girl. But even better she couldn’t be more proud of herself.

Ah, that’s great. Well done to you both. I know Southwell Minster well, it’s a beautiful place with great acoustics for choirs. And there’s a massive organ there, too!! Ahem.

Good for you for pushing her, and good for her for following through! Accomplishment is something parents can’t buy or even teach their kids. You’re giving her great tools for life. Yay, Miss E!

Yes, sometimes you have to be a little pushy for their own good because you’re building their self esteem and making good memories. I’m glad to hear that this one worked out so well. You can both be proud. XOX

Well done you and your brilliant girl. I think you were right to gently push. Parenting is all about knowing when to push after all. I know without it (even now) I’d sometimes not push myself with my work especially creatively when self doubt raises it’s ugly head. Bravo!

It’s knowing when to push and when to take the pressure off isn’t it? We don’t always get it right but this time it worked out ok. (Soooo relieveed). Happy Christmas Honest Mum. x
